Titanic - not just a Love Story!

James Cameron's Film might at first just look like a Love Story set against the most famous maritime Disaster in History, but there's a lot more to it than that.

Not only is it as Film about that famous Disaster, it also spans other things - from a Island off the eastern Coast of Canada to a Press Conference held in August 1990, and seems to have been prompted by an Image from 1993 and the Story that surrounds it.

It was 1990 and a Rock Music Album was compiled and released dealing with the Lebanese Hostage Crisis that had gone on through the second half of the 1980's. Anyone who was aware of things at the time would know Names like John McCarthy, Terry Waite, Brian Keenan etc and a few People in Bristol decided to do an Album Project to campaign for their release.

I was asked to write a Press Pack for it that would be sent to recording Artistes in the hope they would donate a Song for it. They did, and as Songs from the likes of Tina Turner to Dire Straits, Simple Minds to Peter Gabriel began arriving it started gaining a Momentum that would culminate in the Press Conference to launch it.

What was impressive was that it was held at the iconic Waldorf Hotel in London, which they donated the use of for free. Years later I began doing family Research and began wondering how, and did any of that have something to do with that Conference?

The Waldorf was built in 1908 by William Waldorf Astor - Cousin to the wealthiest Man on the stricken Ship - John Jacob "Jakie" Astor. The Astor's were close Friends of the Cecil's of Salisbury and Arthur Balfour who was related to them. So was Lord Harlech - David Ormsby Gore - whose Mother was one of the Gascoyne-Cecils. It turned out Harlech was also a Friend of my own Family who I was reunited with in 1996. It seems I had a connection with that Conference Venue that went beyond a 1990 Music Album launch.

The Hotel itself was actually used in the "SOS Titanic" Movie because it was contemporaneous with the Ship and had certain aesthetic similarities. There was also the Astor connection.

As for the Album Project .....

Dealing with Hostages the Balfour connection resonates with the most beloved Novel of Scotland - Robert Louis Stephenson's "Kidnapped". Balfour featured elsewhere in it all as the Project was invited to Prague in the newly democratised Czechoslovakia, a Country he helped create at the Treaty of St Germaine after the Austro Hungarian Empire was broken up in 1918.

I was supposed to go to Prague that time - but for reasons I didn't Questions should be asked of those responsible.

The Hand and the Rose ........

It was February 14th 1993 and someone opened an Envelope with a Card in it which had drawn Image of a Hand coming from a Lake holding a Rose. A Tor was shown in the Background and it was all evocative of the famous Arthurian Scene when Merlin receives Excalibur or when Sir Bedywr throws it into the Lake after Arthur is killed at the Battle of Camlann.

At the end of the "Titanic" Movie we see Rose throw a Diamond Necklace into the Sea - reminiscent of the latter and what would once have been called a Votive. This has it's modern equivalent with the Wishing Well, when you throw a Coin into it making a Wish.

The Necklace had a huge Jewel mounted into it and the Astor family Heirloom was the Sansi Diamond.

Could she have been returning it to its rightful owner - given that JJ Astor died on that Ship? In that context might he and Jack Dawson have been one and the same?

Or was it a metaphor for the Press Conference and how it might have happened - and how it seems to have launched rather a lot more than a Hostage Album Project? She goes on to become an Actress while a lot of creative Economics - from Fleet Street to independent Television - is attributable to those associated with it. More of some of that in a moment.

An earlier Voyage ......

We go back to 1621 when Welsh Sea Captain Edward Wynn, commissioned by George Calvert - aka Lord Baltimore - sailed to and established a Colony on Newfoundland called Avalon. It was named by Calvert after the Town in Somerset which he saw as the fount of Christianity in Britain. Obviously an adherent to the Story of Joseph of Arimathea.

This becomes poignant given that the "Titanic" Film was made by a Canadian and the Theme Song recorded by one of Canada's most famous Artistes - Celine Dion.

It's also reminiscent of the Hand and the Rose - with it's Avalonian Imagery.

The Name Wynn is also evocative, being connected with the ancient noble Houses of Gwynedd and Deheubarth in Wales.

Here is an article elaborating who Edward Wynn was...

https://journals.lib.unb.ca/index.php/NFLDS/article/view/12688/13593

George Calvert was sponsored by Robert Cecil of Burghley who acted as Guarantor to his rise through the Court and obtaining his Title..... becoming Lord to the Town of Baltimore, Ireland.

Calvert went on to establish the State of Maryland - Cecil helping him obtain it's Charter - and the City of Baltimore. As a tribute to his Sponsor Calvert named his Son Cecile.

This is why the City has Calvert Street as it's administrative District and I wonder how many Fans of the work of David Simon are aware of any of this?

Back to the Film and we see Jack and Fabrizio win Tickets for the Ship in a game of Poker and while they celebrate their good fortune we see People going aboard, so does everyone in Southampton, but one of those Passengers is a young Woman called Rose. "To everyone else it was the Ship of Dreams - to me it was a Slave Ship!" she says. Those on the Quayside just see the Glamour - they don't see what Rose is feeling.

The Name Wynne appears again - this time in the form of John Arthur Wynne who was involved in the process that would lead to the abolition of Slavery.

https://metrowynn.blogspot.com/2016/08/john-arthur-wynne-unsung-philanthropist.html?m=1

There are other things that allude to this ......

As the mighty Ship finally sinks the last thing we see is "Titanic - Liverpool" painted on the Stern. Mid 90's Britain was in the throes of a huge Beatles Revival, while the NME's Album of the year was their "Revolver" LP. Strange given it wasn't from 1996 at all, and was from 1966 - 30 years earlier, although it was that year I last saw my Family before the Reunion in 1996.

Unfortunately, Liverpool suffers from the Stigma along with Bristol, for being a Slave Traders Capital while James Penny whose Name was allegedly given to the Penny Lane the Song was about was one of its worst.

The Great Patriotic War ........

This is the eternal Flame - a Monument to the fallen at the Battle of Stalingrad, but it could be a Hand coming from a Lake holding a Sword - reminiscent of the Imagery from Arthurian Legend - or even holding a Rose like it did in 1993. In the Film we are shown Jack partially submerged in the Sea holding Rose's Hand as she floats on a Piece of Flotsam left by the Ship.

While James Horner did the Music for "Titanic" he also did it for "Enemy at the Gates", the Film about the Battle of Stalingrad and legendary Soviet Sniper Vasily Zaitsev. If you listen to the "Titanic" Soundtrack you will hear the Refrain he went on to use in the Stalingrad Movie.

Here's a Scene from the Film ......

Yours truly - 1996 - taken during the Reunion.....

Yet more creative Economics activity .......

Wonder how many People have met here .... A Scene from the Waldorf.......

Rather like this .......

...... After the Ship has sunk this was the Scene that was described as one of the most emotive in any Film ever ..... Rose on the Piece of Wood from the above Scene ..... just before Jack dies.

Here is a Montage done by someone showing what happened after ..... Rose is rescued by 5th Officer Harold Lowe - a Gwynedd Lad - played by Ioan Gruffudd who went on to appear as William Wilberforce.......

And what of that Image of the Hand and the Rose?

Here was another Montage someone did alluding to other Films that continued the Theme .......

Yep, from Jack Dawson to Jack Sparrow - and anyone who has seen those "Pirates of the Caribbean" Films will know that "The Curse of the Black Pearl" started with the young William Turner being found floating on a piece of Driftwood wearing a Pendant made from Aztec Gold. He becomes an Artificer and fine Sword Maker.

So it seems the Hand and the Rose went on to prompt those "Pirates of the Caribbean" Movies via "Titanic".

So you can see there was a lot more to "Titanic" than a Film about a love story set on the famous maritime Disaster.

And watch this space as we will go back to the roaring Twenties and why Leonardo Di Caprio might have been chosen to play Gatsby.

  1. We were all in this together when I seemed content to work in a Shop in Bristols posh Clifton Village for £5 a day in 1985. You couldn't make up the Paradox as this 62p an Hour Man of Harlech sold a Cassette Tape to HTV's highest paid Presenter for 60% of my daily Income. I had no Transport while she had a Chauffeur.

There might be People who could create spurious Justifications for all this, but then there were People who did the same to oppose Emancipation, universal Suffrage and Integration. They even used the Scriptures, going back to Noah's Curse of Ham, to justify it.

It must have been exasperating in South Africa if you were a Politician in the Legislature opposing the emerging National Party from 1956 to 1969 as any Coloured Representation was systematically abolished - starting with the Vote to Representation in Parliament. The National Party had all their glib Justifications, and like any Regime would employ Scholars to create the intellectual Premise for it.

The World's most notorious Dinner Party - the Wannsee Conference - in 1942, hosted by Reinhard Heydrich - had Constitutional Lawyers in attendance to construct a quasi-legal Framework for the Holocaust.

And even if you ignore the legislative Stuff there are always the techniques used in due Process to obstruct improvement. the Filibuster, Parliamentary Whips, Lobbyists. Doublespeak and Word Creeping are other Strategies that play their part.

If the Scene in the Film "Amazing Grace" is to be believed I'd have loved to have been in our Parliament when William Wilberforce unrolled the anti-Slavery Petition with 1000's of Signatories. Suddenly all those glib Tricks to retain Slavery don't work anymore much to the Chagrin of those who supported it.

For years before this they had that Game as rigged as the Ships that transported Slaves from Africa to Europe and the Americas. While Wilberforce's Petition abolished the Trade, those taken into Parliament in 1833 by John Arthur Wynn abolished Slavery itself. Wonder if he did it like Ioan Gruffudd did in the Film.

And what would they call these Injustices now ..... "Management"?

While they might have had all those supposed Justifications for their 'management' of Coloureds, Slaves and Europe's Undesirables, how about another of the more recent Tricks?

Tokenism. Except - while the 'management' might employ token (ethnic Group) to create a Veneer of equal opportunism, those ethnic Groups could only be exploited because of others from the same Group. Slave Traders in proto-Bristol were of the same Ethnicity as those they bought and sold 1500 years ago. Slave Traders toing and froing Africa bought their African Slaves from other Africans. Has anything improved?

In the excellent 1993 Film "Bopha" the Black South African Policemen begin to realise their Complicity in De Villiers Regime. This has tragic Consequences for the lead Character Micah Mangena - who is killed by his own People as he approaches a Rally given by his Son.

All this can only end if the incentive to continue it is also ended!

  2. That's not even Dickensian Poverty because what if I calculated the sort of Income a real life Bob Cratchett might have been paid in the 1850's - putting it through an APR bringing it up to date in modern Currency?

According to Inflationtool.com which calculates an amount from one period into a more recent one £36 a Week in 1982 is still only £110 today. That's crap, and less than half the minimum Wage for 16-18 year olds.

    How about £5 a day in 1985 for a 21 year old?

£5 a day in 1985 is now £13.26 so I would have been paid £66.30 in today's money. The minimum Wage for a 21 year old is £8.36 an Hour, thus a Week is £334.40 a Week. Rather more than £66.30!

Remember, these are the minimum Wage not the average!

Wonder how much Alison Holloway was paid when she came into the Shop that time complete with Chauffeur, or anyone else at Harlech Television for that matter!

    ReplyDelete
  3. In relative Terms I was probably worse off than even Bob Cratchett. Even though he worked for the world's most famous Miser he must have been paid enough to at least raise a Family. He was arranging for his Son Peter to work for the Company on 5 Shillings and 6 Pence, so I'd have to calculate what that would be in today's Money.

Suffice to say that in either 1982 (£36 a Week) or 2021 (now £110) Money you couldn't even support yourself. Even less so on £25 in 1985 - now £66 - when social Housing Rent was £22 - now £88!

    ReplyDelete
  4. There was no legally established minimum Wage in 1982 or 1985, but even the Thatcher Government set an absolute minimum Income when they decided Social Security Payments.

Brought forward into today's Money and Benefit Levels, £66 Wages a Week (what £25 a Week would be now) is only £6 a Week more than Job Seekers Allowance for under 24 year olds. While I would have to work full time for that, and thus not be eligible for Benefit as a part-time Worker, it also doesn't include other Benefits I might have claimed like Rent and Council Tax Allowance. If I was on £59 a Week JSA I could still claim £88 a Week Rent Allowance and about £15 a Week Council Tax Allowance for Social Housing.

Subsequently, even £110 a Week - which is what my 1982 Wage of £36 would be now - would be about £55 less than the absolute minimum the 80's Government set for you to live on. I was 21 in 1983 when I was still paid £36 a Week - which would more than £50 less than an unemployed single 21 year old would get as a Social Housing Tenant. Even Bob Cratchett was paid enough to raise a Family and pay the Rent.

You can imagine that when I hear Words like 'management' I just want to spit off the side of a Ship. That isn't 'management' that's Exploitation.

    ReplyDelete
  5. £66 a week now wouldn't even pay Social Housing Rent for a 1 Bedroom Flat.

It isn't inconceivable that Charles Dickens might have visited Clifton Village where I worked in 1985 - but while he might have created Characters for "A Christmas Carol" I would suggest he visited the Georgian House Museum because while it might show the grand Opulence of Bristol's Clifton District it also shows what it cost. People whose lot was even worse than Mr Cratchett.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Being what it is in what was Britain's second City, and Slave trading Hub of the British Empire, the Georgian House is one of the most important Museums in the World. Not only because of that imperial Connection, but also the effect the Era had on the Establishment of what is now the World's most powerful Economy. They might have had their War of Independence but the American Framers - North and South - still had Slaves.

What is astonishing about what I knew was how it happened in the Nineteen 80's, not the Seventeen 80's, after everything that had transpired in 200 years, up to Trades Unions, Bevan, Beverage and the Welfare State! Even talking to People who were Blue Collar Workers then is dispiriting when they tell me how much they were paid!

  7. "You could almost go to Party"

It was October 1990 and I was invited to a Party. The thing is, it was in that Southville Enclave so I couldn't attend. Why do I suspect those stage managed Yippies knew that? Same Reason one of them accidentally said too much in 1993, then all the Pieces slotted in. But what are those Hippies hiding in all this Shit?

It's the 1970's - probably about when that Scene with - Nick Vos and his Guitar was set and it was much the same. Years later some of them are doing all sorts if things, like running rustic Pubs in twee Villages called Clapton - to mention just a few.

While it seemed that Crap continued into the 21st Century when I sent an Email to the City of Bristol College, how about others who hide in their Phones?

It looks like you might actually get to talk to someone, maybe ask them about some of this, and sure enough, the Phone suddenly appears. That might work once but several times and you start looking like those Southville "Blankes Gebeid" 30 years ago!

Whatever Colour you might decide to wear!

  8. "Morningside" in the Context of all the other Songs on that Album, and why the Album exists at all - is supposed to be a Song of Freedom. Like "Give Blood" was. When those People either manipulate Steve Winwoods Traffic Songs, or refer to Silver Balls and Wizards they're like Nick Voss in "Catch a Fire", playing those ANC Songs of Freedom in mockery of what they are.

When I wrote the Stuff that was sent to the People that gave them to us I wrote a Piece about what it was like to be a Family of a Beirut Hostage, not Traffic on "Roads" or Games of Pinball. They gave us those Songs on that Proviso - as did the People who sponsored the Poster, gave the Project Office equipment, Donations, and free use of the Adelphi at the Waldorf.

    ReplyDelete
  9. If we had been just another Record Company needing Conference Facilities to promote Traffic Albums or Who Rock Operas it's very unlikely we could afford the Adelphi at the Waldorf, and we certainly wouldn't have been given it free. Printing A1 size glossy colour Posters in their 1000's would have been far too expensive if we hadn't had the support of Aer Lingus to produce them. We'd have been sold, not given, Word Processors, Printers and Typewriters, while we wouldn't have had permission to use the Harbourside for the Vigil seen in "more Memorabilia".

And how about the 100's who gave us Donations that day, including youngsters giving their Pocket Money, old Folk some of their Pension, Students their Grants and Loans. All those others who gave us their spare Change and signed the Petition.

These are the Songs of Freedom, not the horribly and deliberately segregated Decade that seemed to follow it, and that tumouros Portishead Song!

  10. Writing as one of the Cymri whose Parents went through de-welshification in English speaking Schools (Cymraig being their first Language) like those Industrial Schools did Natives in the US I can sympathize with Native Americans who are fed up with corporate Exploitation of Tribal Names and famous Native People.

Here's an example of the Navajo People filing against Urban Clothing for exactly that reason......

    https://www.pillsburylaw.com/en/news-and-insights/caution-tribal-names-not-a-free-for-all.html

Quite, everything from Iroquios and Apache Helicopters to Grand Cherokee Jeeps ought to have been subjected to similar Scrutiny.

I sometimes wish our People had done the same as our Culture and Heritage started being exploited!

  11. Alaric's Story is very familiar, and also similar to ours ..... the Origin of the Arthurian Legend.

In something that is neither "Lord of the Rings" or "Game of Thrones" Alaric was a very capable General, learned and intelligent, whose People had defended the Roman Empires East from marauding Huns, Vandals and other Tribes migrating west. They had borne the Brunt of this for years and the Goth Chieftain petitioned Rome for some Land inside the Empire where his People, who had died in their many, could live in relative Peace. The Romans - described as "Pompous" by one Documentary treated him like he was still just a Barbarian and not Roman, despite everything he had done for them, or how learned he might be.

Alaric, finally having enough of their condescension and broken Promises sacked Rome.

In Britain, we had our Roman Auxiliaries - Paternus (Padarn) and Eternus (Edern) were a couple of Votadini Chiefs it is thought did this, whose Descendant Cunedda went to North Wales and established the Gwynedd Aristocracy - from Maelgwyn to Llewellyn and the Wynn's of Gwydir. There was also Ambrosius Aurelianas and even an Uther Pendragon doing the same. It's believed Ambrosius was a Romano-British Cavalry Officer and Uther served with, or for him. By the time Arthur was born the Romans had - or were - leaving but, his Father being Cavalry, he was to continue that and lead the Charge that routed the Saxons at Badon Hill.

But what happened when the Romans withdrew?

Were these Romano-British treated like Alaric? Brave, capable and loyal, learned and intelligent - but still not Roman and left to defend Britain against all comers - Saxons, Angles, Jutes, Scotti (Ireland), Picts and even a few Norse. They wouldn't accompany the Romans as they retreated to Rome.

Watch "King Arthur" to see some of this, while we've just seen something similar with loyal Afghanis and Kurds, left to fight the Taliban, Turkish Proxies and ISIL by the Americans whose Attitude left a lot to be desired.

This is how I feel. That it doesn't matter what I do, or anything else, as far as certain People are concerned I'm still not one of them. Still kept on the Outside, putting up with the Crap, like Alaric, my Brythonic Ancestors and even those Kurdish Fighters.

Oh, and a few years ago I "almost" moved to that very Roman City - doing a Social Housing Exchange - but only almost!

  12. Who is buying Beatles Records?

The impression I get is that a large proportion of their Sales is to People buying the latest re-release, to add to all the other re-releases they'd bought. Thus, as long ago as the 1970's People might have had their Albums and Singles from the 60's, but then bought "1962-1966", "1967-1970" and the Box Set of Singles they released that Decade. They continued doing this with consecutive Records, including Imports that might have additional Songs and reputedly better pressing Standards, and Cassette Tapes, (for Car and portable Tape players) and then the whole Gamut again when CDs arrived.

Then they started the whole remastered and remixed Game - so you could hear the 2 minute Fade on "Day in the Life" etc, and the Anthology Series - along with that "1" Album in the 90's.

Heck, if even hugely paid Media People like Alison Holloway bought Cassettes in 1985, probably of Albums they had on Vinyl, then why wouldn't everyone else? While Vinyl wears out and Tapes snap and they replaced old Records and Cassettes with new Discs and Tapes. Then, there were the Mono to Stereo remixes (some released concurrently as either, others turned into Stereo later).

I ended up with my Mum's Record, Tape and CD Collection - and was amazed at how many duplicate Songs she had accrued. Boxed sets, Compilations, TV Soundtracks, Christmas Albums - all containing the same Songs more or less - in different order. So who's to say a lot of Beatles Sales aren't the same thing. People buying the latest Beatles Product - even if they might have all the Songs on it!

So "600 Million" Albums sold might sound a lot but is it just the same People every year?

    ReplyDelete
  13. If you went back far enough those same People might have bought Beatles Sheet Music, then Wax Cylinders and then onto Shellac 78rpm Discs - while some Records were released on Reel to Reel Tape before Cassette, and there were brief Formats like Minidisc and Laser Disc. Even Compilations of Music Videos have been available on VHS, Blu-ray and DVD.

Then there are recorded Concerts. Would a DVD of the Beatles at Shea Stadium be sold as a live Album for example?

So to rely on a Figure of 600 Million doesn't report how many are duplicate Sales of different Formats and how many reaching a genuinely new Audience.

  14. "I'm the People too!"

It was 1964 and Sir Ralph Richardson (Alexander Gromeko), Geraldine Chaplin (Tanya Gromeko), and Omar Sharif (Yuri Zhivago), are stood outside their House in Varykino. The Door is chained and padlocked. A Sign says "Keep out, by order of the People". Sir Ralph picks up a Shovel and is about to break the Lock "I'm the People too!" he exclaims. Omar Sharif stops him, telling him he'd get into trouble.

Hear hear Sir Ralph, and in all their Zeal the Bolsheviks - who weren't even using the House - seemed to have developed a rather abstract Idea about what exactly "The People" are. The Gromeko's have travelled 1000's of arduous Miles to end up locked out of their own House.

Geraldine Chaplin's presence is all too poignant after what was done to her Father. In a rather cowardly move, waiting until Chaplin was travelling to Europe to promote his Film "Limelight" - the Americans sent a Telegraph to his Ship telling him he was being deported. Suddenly he has no access to anything he had spent years building up, including his own Film Company.

So what or who are "the People"?

The Word "People" is derived from the Latin Populae - from which you get Populace, Popular, and Pop as in Music. But what if any of these start padlocking Doors, even to other People trying to access what is theirs? The latter could legitimately ask what the former means by "the People"?

And to bolster that Bob Marley - who sang about those Hypocrites in "No Woman, no cry" (or should that be weep), tells us "I'm a Rainbow too" in "Sun is shining"!

It's ironic how the Modern Slavery Act 2015 should be a Cameron-May Policy and not a Blair-Brown one for all the latters Concern about "the People".

New Labourist Millenials can be as Green, Vegetarian, supposedly ethical and Eco powered they like - but if you have Slavery, or what they have be derived from it, it's meaningless!

    ReplyDelete
  15. And if that Sign said "There you go" Sir Ralph shouldn't have just broken that Lock - he should make whoever put it there eat it!

  16. A Tale of 2 Projects .....

When all this started the Project was based in a spare room in Easton, Bristol. The Article was published and we did the Vigil on the Harbourside.

When certain People started getting involved we started having 2 of them.

There was the one I was invoked with - which meant sleeping on Floors and trying to get home at all Hours of the Day or Night.... struggling on Benefits.

There was the other, which meant cozy Nights out - a sort of prototype of what I've been meeting in the last 20 years. Those who went to Dublin when Brian Keenan came home, and those who went to Prague.

So why should we trust them?

Meanwhile, while someone should paint "ANC" on the Wall outside Malcolm McDowalls House, they should also paint "Here we are" outside the House of Alicia Moore!

  17. Today's Contrivance is that Bloke who kept on about that Douglas Motorcycle that always had "a Pot on either side". The thing is, what sort of "Pot" does he mean?

Would it be a Tea Pot, or maybe a Potentiometer (as in Volume or Tone Controls on an Amplifier), would it even have been a Cambodian Dictator, or could it be something you smoke or something you'd grow a Plant in?

Whether it's the Weed or Bill and Ben the Flower Pot Men, it sounds like 'managementspeak' Manure to me!

  18. Going to Prague would have been a much better Idea ......

President Biden very unfairly blamed the Afghan Army for not putting up enough of a Fight earlier this year when the Taliban rapidly seized the Country. What he doesn't say is how, when the few 1000 American Soldiers withdrew they took 1000's more civilian Contractors with them, including People whose Job was to maintain the Aircraft the Americans had supplied them. The beleaguered Afghan Army was left with so much useless, and very expensive Scrap.

In other words, they had lost the Ability to defend themselves.

In 1938 at Munich Jan Masaryck was forced to give the Sudeten to Adolf Hitler by Chamberlain and Daladier in a Deal brokered by Mussolini. The problem was that was where Czechoslovakia's Defences against any Invasion from Germany were deployed. Prague had a large, modern and effective Army, that would have given even Hitler's Werhmacht a good Account of itself had they retained those Defences.

After Hitler's conquest of Poland the Czechish Frontier with German held territory became impossible and when Germany marched in and occupied the rest of the Country they couldn't do very much. People blamed them for not doing enough against the Nazi onslaught.

I know how Masaryck felt when I involuntarilly had to give up Czechoslovakia in 1990. How was I supposed to compete with some of that 90's and post-90's Crap with what was left?

Getting paid £20 for a Radio Program, the Dole, a Government Scheme funded part-time University Course, £12 a Night Music promo Work and some mid 90's Schmindie Group that did 1 and a half Gigs and a demo recording Session doesn't even come close to the Potential Prague offered.

Masaryck knew what Munich meant for his Country, our Man of Harlech bitterly opposed Chamberlain for his very misguided "Piece of Paper", knowing what would come next.

It took the Red Army to eject the Nazis from Czechoslovakia, so not surprisingly they turned the Hand and the Rose of "Titanic" into Vasily Zaitsev in "Enemy at the Gates" via James Horner's Soundtrack and the Eternal Flame at Stalingrad!

  19. How am I supposed to do anything when I've had to give that away in 1990? Like a Favour for a Fried in 2001 for example?

Oh, and I s'pose that Bloke with the Van is going to pull out his Thumb and say what a good Boy he is!

Meanwhile, it seems in the Land of Bovine Poo and Double Speak People are confusing the Soviet Army with red Bicycles, or even red Clothes, except if you throw in the Livery of that House in Bravos 'Molly Malone', with her Wheel BARROW is working for what have you got?

What's Black and White and Red all over? In other Words?

Going to Prague wasn't just a better Idea because it's rather more substantial than all that useless Shit I did get fobbed off with, it's also new. Just how clean did the Slate have to be in 1990, while all that old Crap from before had had 27 years to prove to me it was worth bothering about. And that doesn't include the years before I was born.

  20. The Modern Slavery Act 2015 was formulated by David Cameron and brought into Law by Theresa May, so an anti-Slavery Rock Band could have the support of 2 former British Prime Ministers - one of whom married the Step-Daughter of one of the Astor's anyway.

The Contrast between that and an Area where Emails to Educationalist Establishments are ignored or not replied to, and you couldn't even vote is all too apparent.

The first shows that that supposed Education-for-all Threshold is closed while the second is a very big deal.

Not being able to vote isn't the same as not wanting to, while doing so is your point of Contact which decides everything from who will represent you in Parliament to how Tax is collected, from who the Attorney General might be and every Strata of how the Country will be run. What Healthcare you will have and how we act as a Country abroad.

Deciding not to allows you to choose to opt out of all of that like a Consiencous opts against going to War

    ReplyDelete
  21. Here's a sobering Thought for anyone today who might be pro-War or pro-Slavery ......

"If they want eternal war, well and good; we accept the issue, and will dispossess them and put our friends in their place. I know thousands and millions of good people who at simple notice would come to North Alabama and accept the elegant houses and plantations there. If the people of Huntsville think different, let them persist in war three years longer, and then they will not be consulted. Three years ago by a little reflection and patience they could have had a hundred years of peace and prosperity, but they preferred war;"

William Tecumseh Sherman on those who persisted on a War to retain Slavery! I particularly liked the trading Places part of the Quote. There are a few People I can think of who ought to forfeit their ill-gotten Gains!

  22. Schmindie is post-1993 psuedo-alternative Crap sold as "Indie" when, not only it isn't particularly independent and not exactly alternative, it's also dismal Shit laced with a socio-corporate Agenda!

As today's Conversation proved; the Music might have been played by apparent 20 Somethings (except maybe not necessarily in Ms Wener's Case), those behind it were considerably older.

  23. Just how clean did the proverbial Slate have to be 32 years ago?

The Civil War that had started in Europe in 1914 had just ended, the Evil of Apartheid - which had gone on since People like Dusty Springfield refused to play to segregated Audiences - had gone, the Man who put the Fatwa on Salman Rushdie had died and Margaret Thatcher - the Architect of the Poll Tax - Asset Stripper with more Fire than Hire, prompter of a 1000 Demos - finally resigned after 11 years. Saddam had prompted the first post-Cold War Consensus by invading Kuwait as Moscow backed every UN Resolution against him.

And to emphasise it all Hostages who had disappeared in Beirut and Lebanon were finally coming home. But while yours truly only "almost" went to a Party in Southville, Bristol in 1990 we did't seem to be celebrating. Instead we get some dismal, mean spirited, toxic and contrived "Penny Lane" Horseshit in a BBC Library in 1991.

Then, fast forward a Decade I'm getting a Battering for doing anti-Poverty Work, then suddenly I have a Call to Arms by a US President and British Prime Minister. The thing is, while being horrified at the Pictures of Planes crashing into the WTC, everything had become very abstract by then. I'd never been to New York or America - couldn't afford to - but I gather the 9/11 Hijackers had spent several years there before September 2001. "Friends" and "Cheers" were just TV Shows, flickering on a Cathode Ray Tube in the Corner of the Room. To throw a Beatles Grenade back at them "nothing was real". As Kelly Jones said of the City he he had seen so often on TV "I've never been here before" in "Pick a Part that's new"!

All very different from the start of the 90's when there was a very real sense of potential Involvement - from doing the Hostage Campaign to Community Broadcasts for the Soldiers, Sailors and Airforce Families Association during the Gulf War.

  24. Brock Lovett is like Hockley ....

He isn't interested in Talent. He doesn't give a Stuff about the Drawing - which could be a scrawled Picture of a Toilet - as long as it shows the Diamond he has coveted for 3 years. We can assume he has similar Feelings about the History and human Tragedy of the Shipwreck. His ROV goes through the Cabin, passing all sorts of Artifacts including the famous Mantlepiece, but it's all ignored.

Except he dresses it all up as Marine Archeology - but is it?

How about Creativity - and even the Economics of Creativity?

How much Creativity has happened as a Result of not just the Hand and the Rose from 1993, or that Project and Press Conference, but real life Associates of the real life Astors? Film, Television, Music, Literature - and all their associated Work, but some People haven't so much as made a Cup of Coffee. Others are as exploitative as Hockley (those "Arrangements" and how things might be worth a Fortune), some as hypocritical as the Regime on the Ship. No-one is thumping Guggenheim's Mistress for doing exactly what Jack does for example. Lucile Duff-Gordon's erm - 'creations' - seem quite acceptable to some - but not others apparently.

Back in "the Fog" the Remake shows a rather more shocking Crime than the one alluded to in 1980. It emphasises how deliberate the Act was, whereas it was left to our imagination in 1980. It ends with Nick Castle stood on the Prow of his Boat - throwing the Book with the Story into the Sea - while Rose returned the Heart of the Ocean like it was the Sansi Diamond being returned to Jackie Astor.

Fast forward to "Gatsby" and the Film Maker credits the Greater Astoria Historical Society for being Consultants to the Movie, supplying History, Information and Photographs about the Area the Story is set. Some of it was the Valley of the Ashes - where George Wilson lived, and the famous Hoarding of the Occularist. Here, we used to have what was locally known as "the Ash" - where the Contents of the Power Station Furnaces was dumped. It is now Phoenix Way - rising up from the Ashes.

In "The Fog" remake we are in a Bar and Elizabeth sees Photographs showing Antonio Bay before the Plunder - a few Shacks and Cabins - and after, a fully fledged Town. This was 2005 and about the time they were building Phoenix Way.

  26. In just one Week you would have paid 6 Months Rent in Prague with the standard Rate of Unemployment Benefit in Britain. You can attach similar Proportions to everything else too - Food, Bills, Entertainment, Consumer Goods, Transport. And while I might have got £20 for a Radio Program on the Subject in Britain - the Dole - the minimum the Government decides you need to live on - a Week is about £15 more.

Not just that, but you also have an open Door to the Czech Government and any assistance they can give you. I remember writing up an Inventory of what you could do with all that, from Tour Promotion to Catering and Import-Export - and those days really were the first days of the rest of your Life.

What was happening in 1990 Bristol that was sooo exciting and lucrative to those that went that meant they did nothing with it?

As for that Doublespeak Crypto Stuff; I can connect that with the 'Management' except if it was as described why is that 'management' in Social Housing and full-time, below average Wage Employment? Why aren't they doing that instead, with their own House and self-employed?

  27. Working with those People is like Human Rights in Action. People who were gaoled, disappeared, tortured, worked to near Death in toxic Camps in Siberia and banned - free, and working to improve their Lives.

Mutually a very agreeable and prosperous Partnership too!

There's a Website I used to show the Cost of Living in early 90's Czechoslovakia - showing Expenditure including how much Rent was for a 2 bedroom Flat. The Price was in Krona - and you use another Website to show the exchange Rate in 1992. If everything else is proportionally similar your £35 a week goes a long way - particularly put towards doing Concerts. Even employing Prague Locals to help do them.

Tour Promotion could be everything from a regular Concert to Shows at Prague Castle, selling Tickets in Britain where People come for a couple of days, see the Show in stunning Surroundings and visit a beautiful City. Import-Export could mean selling sought after UK Goods to an upwardly mobile Czechoslovak Sector you now have access to, and importing quality Czechish Goods to Britain.

Because those People had a Network of other former Warsaw Pact and Soviet Dissdents that Market expands into all of that, and while the old Maxim might have been "go west young Man" the new one might be "go east".

Support from the British Government as well as the Czechoslovak and other eastern European Governments could have been quite enthusiastic because of how it cultivated Relations with the Countries involved, while we have the proverbial Foot in the Door... bringing much needed Stirling Currency with us.

  28. One of the biggest Gripes I've heard from Eastern Europeans in the last 15 years is how their Music and Cultures have been usurped by Britney and Christina. MTV and VH1 might have native Presenters but all they do is introduce Videos by Western Rock, Rap and Pop Groups.

When I began meeting them I asked them about their Music and got CDs full of some of the most awesome Stuff I'd heard. Quite refreshing too as it wasn't hampered by the usual Suspect Influences. There was no Beatles Revival in Eastern Europe, while "Back in the USSR" was as obsolete as the Soviet Union it sang about.

So why not do package Tours of Britain with some of these Groups - former Dissident Musicians playing to the West! Slavic Folk fused with Ska defies any Rude Boy not to dance, Polski Hip Hop raps as much as anything in Compton, while their Punk really did have a Reason to exist and their Rock Music is as accomplished as any western Band. Chill-out Fans might be awed by Russian Music that epitomised the vastness of the Urals and the mere existence of Yugoslav Music Bands is immense in the Circumstances.

  29. Just read something from Noel about why Oasis couldn't break America. He says it's because Liam wasn't Bono or Chris Martin - but while U2 always exuded Exuberance with Song after Song (and I'd dispute Claims by Record Industry Types that dismal Coldplay are comparable) the fact is People have far more Choice than they did when the Beatles led the British Invasion in the 60's.

In 1964 50's Rock and Rollers were in their 30's, Music seemed to be getting tame and Elvis was in the Army. There wasn't very much Competition, while Black Music was still segregated. Dubbed "Race Music" some Venues, Record Companies, Radio and Shops in the US were as segregated as South Africa, thus it couldn't broaden it's Audience.

America also has a myriad of Musical Genres without importing it from Britain - while they could produce Beatles soundalikes if they so wished.

It's also a bit tedious to see how an Anglo-American Centricism still exists in Musical Attitudes.

The 21st Century brought 2 Actors to prominence - both of whom are very famous in their Parts of the World. Chow Yun Fat - who played Captain Sou Feng in "Pirates of the Caribbean" - is the most famous Star in China - population of 1.4billion - while the most famous in the Arab and Moslem World is probably Ghassan Massoud (Saladin in "Kingdom of Heaven"). Both Proof that there is far more Culture in the World than 2nd rate, dismal U2 Plagiarists. While U2 at their peak epitomised what Rock Music was supposed to be - a Force for Liberation - Coldplay were just another dismal Product of a cynical Industry basking in post 90's Narcissism.

While they might have sold 100 Million Albums, Millions more will go to see the latest Bollywood Movie every week.

Also, has Chris Martin taken to promoting Crypto Currency - with his "soft spoken Voice"?

  31. Back to the Great Rock and Roll Dwindle ....

If, indeed, it transpires that all that so called Rock and Roll Social Conscience was nothing more than a Scam it's one of the worst and most disreputable. If someone came to you with just another Creative Economics Business Deal you would treat it as such, while your due Diligence would be applied. If they came to you spouting some Stuff about Social Conscience, Social Justice - altruism or something like that you probably wouldn't.

Hostage Release wasn't just another Rock and Pop Music Compilation. If it was everyone from the Waldorf to Aer Lingus wouldn't have donated Venue Space and Posters to it. There would have been no Petition to raise or anything to donate to when we did the Vigil on Bristols Harbourside. The Media - from the Evening Post to BBC Radio One - wouldn't have given it the sort of Publicity it enjoyed and so on. I might have written a Press Pack for it, but probably invoiced them for the Work, while it might never have been released in Prague against the Backdrop of Events there at the time.

So, while it becomes apparent the Rock and Roll Social Conscience is either not what it seems or is appropriated like any other Creative Industry Venture how about if it was just another thing to become rich and famous and make Money?

The thing is, it isn't anymore.

If even 20 years ago you could sell 30,000 Records and have a #1 - while the NME was selling a paltry 40,000 Editions a Week across the Country neither Wealth or Fame particularly applies. Nowadays you could play to 60,000 People at a Festival - and flip Burgers for a living the Week after. Millenial Musos might get 100,000s of Visitors to their Internet Stream, but then so do Recipe Websites while Mainstream Media Sites don't guarantee Circulation and Audience Figures.

The Spice Girls discovered the shortcomings of "Girl Power" when the male run Record Companies Enthusiasm went elsewhere and their 3rd Album was trounced by a tepid Male Vocal Group called Westlife. When RMS EMI began sinking did anyone come forward to help like they might a few years before or did they just shrug and look the other way? As Glampersbury became more and more commercial with Tickets selling for £250 it does so behind a Wall even more formidable than Walter Ulbricht's Construction in 1961. You used to be able to attend even on a Scheme or the Dole.

The Record Industry consolidates by becoming bigger, more centralised and gobbles up smaller Companies in order to survive - but then that's exactly what a Star does before it goes into supernova and dies. Be careful what you wish for Noel, it might come true!

As Youngsters discover other things to do and realise they might not buy an acoustic Guitar and be the next Bob Dylan Music is sitting there crying "Wolf" once too often. After how it ravaged People's Lives like it has - from its famous Victims to those whose Lives it wrecked does anyone care?

After all, how many Years is it I've been writing about this? No one has emailed me about any of it, or commented here with their own thoughts on the Subject, while others have cynically manipulated and manuvered around it.

  32. "With a little Help from my Friends"?

While some recent Films and TV took the Viewers back 100 years to the Jazz Age and the Birth of modern Pop Culture - fueled by Bahamian Booze (endorsed by Churchill), a Hollywood financed by Joseph Kennedy and an Era made glamourous by the Astor Family who substantially owned large Chunks of British Media, the early 60's was epitomised by that Anglo-American Relationship - not seen since Churchill and Roosevelt.

Perhaps it was no coincidence that the British Invasion of early 60's American Culture was concurrent with that - encouraged even as the cultural Manifestation of that Relationship.

But what has happened since, and did some of that Culture begin to piss off those Friends?

In a marked Contrast to the early 60's, by the end of them Elvis was accusing the Beatles of Anti-americanism and was supported in his Claim by President Nixon. John Lennon was continually refused US Citizenship - and then targeted long after, and the whole thing had gone a bit sour.

Sir Paul might have supported War mongering Hillary Clinton in her failed bid for the Whitehouse - which is ironic as the former first Lady fired any Whitehouse Staff from the Kennedy Era, and was perhaps a little misguided. He baulked at a President Trump who rolled back some of the social and ecological Progress of the Past - but much of that found Kudos and Support with the Kennedys (Bobby particularly). More recent American Musicians were scornful of more recent UK Groups for sounding like "the Beatles" and even former Travelling Wilbury Bob Dylan once said "awe c'mon, this is American Music".

Afro-America had wised up by the 80's and was home-growing a Music that owed nothing to the Beatles - and would not be appropriated either like their Blues Ancestors were in the 60's. Reggae began flourishing in a 1970's Caribbean that was similarly independent.

In what ought to have happened at the end of the Cold War an Album was released in former Warsaw Pact Countries, and was even pencilled in for Gorbachev's Soviet Union, but the Momentum ended there. It should have been a manifestation of that Rebirth of History - but wasn't. A new Berlin Wall straddles the Fields of Somerset every year as Guest listed Wayne Rooney et al plod around the Mud behind its Fortifications and post-90's Culture hides behind it.

  33. Whether you were a Fan of the "X-Files" who noticed an increase in the Production Quality of the Series after 1997, or Ridley-Scott who could finally make Films like "Tristan and Isolde" while continue the "Alien" Franchise with "Prometheus" or "Alien Covenant" - "Titanic" gave the Film Company the Money they could advance to the Film Makers. Not even George Lucas has 100's of Millions of $ to make Films, that's what the Company is there for. After "Avatar" the Budget became exponential - being even more successful than "Titanic".

But as far as the spoilt-jaded-and cynical Regime here was concerned it would never be enough, rather like a scrubbed and spruced up Jack Dawson would only ever be "almost a Gentleman"!

  34. There have been "Star Wars" Movies since "Phantom Menace", "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith" except they were made by Universal and weren't directed by George Lucas. Having said that - and knowing that they don't feature many of the familiar Characters Episodes 1-6 did, how could they have got to 7-8 without them?

Even Chris Carter made his "X-Files" Movie after 1997, while those "Pirates of ...." Films start in a Fog and where "Titanic" left off even if they were Disney Movies.

While "Gone with the Wind" might be the most successful Film if you adjust its Revenue for Inflation there was no Television and the Urban Sprawl that pulled Audiences away from the Cinema, so "Titanic" and "Avatar" earned their Success despite the Attack of the small Screens ..... thus more successful. Money 20th Century Fox can put into further Projects.

  35. History repeating ......

In 1938 Prague watched in horror at the pre-amble to the Munich Conference. Chaired by Mussolini the Meeting was to 'negotiate' the handing over of the Sudetenland to a Germany who had disputed it's Possession since the end of the 1st World War, claiming it from Czechoslovakia, citing the majority ethnic Germans who lived there. Also in attendance were Neville Chamberlain - British Prime Minister - and his French equivalent Eduoard Daladier, and the Recipient of the Territory Adolf Hitler. To this day Czechoslovaks call it the Mnichovská zrada - the Munich Betrayal.

Years later and something else involving Czechoslovakia had to be given away. The effects seem to have been quite similar as there are those who assume a Superiority akin to Hitler's Fascists and yours truly was left as defenceless as Czechoslovakia was after its Fortifications and natural Defences against Germany were given away.

Now that's what I call disgusting!

On 6th of August 1990 I was going to London to attend this Press Conference and everything seemed so real, so tangible. (See; https://metrowynn.blogspot.com/2016/09/memorabilia.html?m=1) Then certain People get involved and it all starts disappearing into their Thug Yippie Boudoir. Before long it starts turning into Willow the Wisp, a useless Waft of Intangibility. It disappears into their Saffron Dinner Parties - suddenly completely inaccessible. More recently the same sort of People arrive here and the same sort of thing applies.

And while they hide it in their off-limits Dinner Party maybe they also hide it behind Ian Dury and a Vale (not a Typo).

  36. "Eternal Father strong to save"

There are 2 eternal Flames ......

One has been mentioned several times here ..... at Volgograd - formerly Stalingrad - to commemorate the fallen at the epic Battle there. The other on Jack Kennedys Grave at Arlington Cemetery in America.

The Song "Eternal Father strong to save" was played at the former Presidents Funeral. Our Man of Harlech was a Pallbearer at his Brother Roberts Funeral in 1968.

As it became apparent by 1996 that another Man of Harlech was conspicui in absentia after this Press Conference at the Astor's Hotel in 1990 Jack Dawson is turned away in the Film as the so-called Christians sing the same Song.

The implication here being he would have been turned away from his own Funeral by a Regime of Thuggery, Duplicity and Hypocrisy.

  37. "We will rock you"......?????

Big thanks to all those Pop Nazis from the Millennium - Kylie, Pink ..... 5ive etc for completely ruining the Millennium for some of us with some of the most dismal and awful Muzak ever. While I won't live to be 117 none of us will be here to see the next 1000 years. Very few who saw the end of the last Century will see the end of this one. As someone who was very involved with the beginning of its last Decade, and how awesome it was, I don't think the end of it could have been much more dismal.

I ended it doing an anti-Poverty Campaign, then we had the year 2000 and the prevailing Pop Climate of then. Pink did her Shit, Kylie effectively did it's Remix - "There you go" with Arms - then there was that dreadful re-recording of an already dreadful Song.

Queen had teamed up with Pop Group 5ive and did "We will rock you" which seemed to me like a go at anyone doing any sort of anti-poverty Campaigns.

Hmmm, I thought as it seemed like a Pop Fascist Onslaught, how does 5ives Jason Brown spell that Name - Brown ..... or Braun?

It was horrible and not at all what you might expect from Pop Culture. As someone who had been immersed in a lot of it, influenced by the AgitProp of Punk, into other Areas of Protest Music like Folky Stuff and Reggae, that Onslaught wasn't in anything I understood as Music.

Going back to when Bob Dylan started he looked like he might be quite promising - a Folky Troubadour who could continue the Tradition started by Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie - he could use his Talent to address Injustices like Poverty. I even did the "Subterranean Homesick Blues" thing on our Campaign with those Placards.

So what had happened in the 38 years from Dylan's Debut to Messer's Brown and co? What had that Industry turned into? Was that Protest just a Disguise that they didn't bother wearing by the end of the 20th?

  38. Meanwhile, has anyone else had one of these ......?

    "Hello!

I'm the Chinese software engineer who hacked into your device OS.

I've been watching you for month now. The thing is, you've been infected with malware through the adult website you visited... I have downloaded all confidential information from your system and I got some more evidence.

In case you're not familiar with it, I'll explain.

The virus gives me full access and control over your computer or any other device on your network. It means that I can see everything on your screen, turn on your camera and microphone, but you don't know about it. I also have access to all of your phone and email contacts, as well as access to your social media accounts.

Why didn't your antivirus detect any malware?

Answer: My malware uses a low-level device driver build-in your CPU and I update its signatures every 4 hours to keep your antivirus silent.

I got access to your smartphone and saw everything you were doing... well, I got a video of you masturbating in the bathroom (nice interior, by the way)

I put together a footage: on one side of the screen is the video you're watching at the moment and on the other side is your satisfied face. With one click, I can send this video to all your contacts.

Do you want to prevent it?

I understand your concern. Especially since the video was quite vulgar, I can't imagine the embarrassment you will feel when your colleagues, friends and relatives see it.

If you need to erase all of your collected data just send 0.02 btc (Bitcoin) to a wallet that was specially generated for your email address.

    1J2Fa13ynXGEdP2ZkLX3SQuWgiDoCN8Bu5

Yes, it's that simple! My script will detect the transaction to the wallet and will automatically delete all the dirt that was collected on you.

I will give you 48 hours to pay.

Do not try to reply to this email, it makes absolutely no sense (the sender's email address as well as the Bitcoin wallet were generated automatically especially for you and cannot be traced). I don't make mistakes.

If I see that you've shared this message with someone else (for example, it will be open on a different device than yours), the video will instantly start being sent out to your contact list.

Take it easy. Take it as a little life lesson and be more careful in the future.

Yes, the internet advices about taping the camera isn't so useless.

Good luck with that. Bye. ❤️"

  39. "We couldn't find any Record of Jack, nothing at all"

It's 1992 or any year after - up to when they made the Film - and Brock Lovett and Louis Bodine are looking through that years Woodspring/North Somerset Electoral Role. Even before the Internet you could buy Copies of it, which many People did - from Promotional and Mail marketting Companies, Researchers, Academics - Media and even Film People.

They see that the Entry for this Address is wrong, and having been here since 1986, also knowing who was here before that, no one by the Name that was entered has ever lived here. It's like "Jack" had been replaced by someone else.

Then they flick through that contentious 1995 Edition of the Guardian - only 5 years after this Press Conference and the Hostage Project - there's no Mention of either or even those People of Harlech.

The Astor Family owned the London Times until 1966, but more poignantly, the Observer until 1977 - being edited by Owner, David Astor for 27 years. The Guardian acquired the Paper in 1993, but it was like David never existed by 1995.

    Things didn't improve .....

I remember getting Mail for a Couple listed here from a Credit Card Company in the early 2000's.

Then, there's my Mobile Phone in 2008, a Nokia 3510i.

I was in the High Street and an elderly Woman saunters up to me; "have you left your Phone on the Bench by the Precinct?" she asked. "Ooohh" I said, doing the Pocket Dance, realising that I had. I thanked her, but when I got there it had gone. The thing is, if she knew who it belonged to then whoever found it probably does too, except all these years since and it still hasn't been returned. Seems that disappeared too!

Ironically, I found someone elses, rather expensive Smart Phone a few days later - when these things cost £100's. Not prying into any Content I went straight to the "My Numbers" Listing, found an 0117 Bristol Number called "Work". Called it from that Phone, they called it back and we arranged for me to return it that very same day.

Seems "Jack's" Honesty isn't reciprocated either elsewhere.

There's a Pattern emerging here that starts looking very conspiratorial.

  40. Rather topical at the moment ..... although I'm sure the 'Management' will dirty this up like they do everything else, in 2007 Christmas for me was saved by the Russians.

After a particularly dismal few years it was Christmas 2007. I spent the sum total of about half an Hour with Mum as she bustled around getting Presents and Cards together before going off to see other Family .... and that, I thought was that!

I went home resigned to a dismal December 25th - but then thought "stuff it, I'm not gonna sit around here feeling miserable" so grabbed a Bottle of Wine, some Mince Pies and a Balalaika I'd started to learn to play and headed for the Beach.

I sat there playing Music, sipping Wine and eating Mince Pies - occasionally hearing Applause from People walking off their Christmas Dinner, then noticed someone was listening quite intently.

She came up to me and asked; "How long have you been playing that?"

    "A few Months" I replied

"That's quite good after only a few Months!"

    I noticed her Accent ....

"Where are you from" I asked

    "Yekaterinburg" she said.

    "Wow, that's in Siberia!!!!" ....

We got talking about Russian Music and History then she asked; "What are you doing later?"

    "Nothing particularly" I replied.

"We meet here for a Party?" She said, and then went home. I stayed a while longer before I did.

I was open minded about this when I went back in the Evening, half expecting no-one would show up, but sure enough, they did - and they didn't just slum it with a few Bangers and Beer. They brought a full-on Barbecue, marinated Chicken with everything on Skewers, Boxes full of Salad and Gallons of Wine.

It was the best, and most unusual Christmas I'd had in years.

Shame the same couldn't be said of others in this Story, whose Christmas Dinner, the Table it was consumed from and Room it was eaten in, contained by the House and Garden bought with Money earned doing the Jobs we helped create!

  41. "Sons of Anarchy" .....

As the Money made by "Titanic" was put into other Films - also in that are TV Shows made by the same Company. FX21 being 20th Century Fox's 21st Century TV Company. Their most famous offering in recent years is the TV Series "Sons of Anarchy".

Suddenly Bikers get an opportunity to work in TV - while the Show provided Work for 7 years. That continued into the Spin-off "Mayans MC" which was still being made very recently.

As we were immersed in Fog this Morning, I was reminded of some of their Characterisations ..... particularly Gemma and her Family. Nate - her Father, played by Hal Holbrook, was like a continuation of his Father Malone from the original "Fog" Movie, while his Wife was called Rose.

Also, while a certain Motorcycle Club have very strict Rules about who has, and who hasn't, earned the Right to wear their Club Patches and Tattoos - what makes them think they're unique in feeling that? Why should we be any different when we see Interlopers impinging on our Achievements and Activities?

There are many in this Story, while there are others I remember in it.

For example, 32 years ago I met the real Brenda and Elaine, Sisters of still missing Hostage Brian Keenan, who had been through nearly 6 years of Anguish - not knowing when or if he was ever coming home.

So why should others since, nothing to do with them, maneuver themselves into it via a Process of Juxtaposition just because the Drab Bore wrote a few crappy Songs?

  42. Next time they're in any Library maybe they'd like to read "The Rebirth of History" by Misha Glenny instead of whatever Crap they'd buried their Noses in 32 years ago. He's a former BBC World Service Correspondent who covered the end of the Cold War, and the bitter Paradox is some of those People were BBC too. Their Correspondents were doing Stories about everywhere from Prague to Beijing AT THAT TIME not Abbey Road or Carnaby Street 25 years earlier.

Which brings me to this ......

Very recent Events in the Ukraine prove there was no Comparison to those in Eastern Europe at the end of the 80's. But People were trying to Palm us off with all that "Orange Revolution" Shit like there was. Like it was some sort of Consolation Prize for those of us left out in the previous Turmoils of Eastern Europe.

I could go to Prague now I s'pose. Me and the 1000's of others arriving there that Day, paying for my Accommodation, spending Money I can ill afford playing Tourist. A pale Imitation of what was supposed to happen when we might have gone there as Guests of Mr Havel's Government, just after the Velvet Revolution with a View to doing Concerts with some of the People on our Album.

Not quite the same is it.

  43. Even 40 years ago, any Minors working on TV Shows at HTV had to be accompanied by an Adult, if not a Parent then a Chaperone for understandable Reasons. Not only that, there are also Restrictions on the Hours they can work, so while those "Children" in this Story might work unaccompanied in the Evenings and Weekends, real Children wouldn't be allowed to. TV and Film Shoots can go on into the small Hours which would be unacceptable. They most certainly wouldn't be in any Bar or Social Club drinking Alcohol or smoking Cigarettes - while not having Relationships with adult Colleagues is quite self-explanatory. Neither should they be driving their own or Company Cars - like those Ford Escorts the BBC had in Bristol.

"Penny Lane" or "Another Brick in the Wall" have got a helluva lot to answer for in this Context haven't they!

Maybe we want it all back!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Another Brick in the Wall??????

When the first Wall was up it could be argued that there was more west of it than east. What wasn't in the Warsaw Pact or Western Russia and the Soviet Union (what used to be called the 2nd World) was the developing, or 3rd World.

Since then western Russia has very developed and modern Cities and China has become the World's second Economy. India is now described as a regional Super Power while other Economies have developed hugely. At time of writing it could be argued that there is now as much East as there is West, and there is potential that east of it might even become more.

Russia and China are going to carve up an Asia where the western Presence seems to be diminishing and in some ways Sanctions have made that decision easier for them.

With so much latent Business in the East Russians aren't going to let their smart new Malls fall into ruin or uselessness. They'll begin adopting a similarly mutual Arrangement they have with the Chinese.

Careful what you wish for Roger ....

It looks like the Wall is going back up again!

  45. "I don't even have a Picture of him ...."

Rose tells Brock Lovetts Crew in the Film.....

The Hostage Album that was released in Czechoslovakia by Suprafon didn't use the Cover Photo for either Vinyl, CD or Tape. I'm glad it didn't because it's not about gimmicky Photographs the Merchants of Contrivance and Insincerity can fiddle with to the Sound of "Yesterday" or "A Nice Pair" by Pink Floyd. I didn't sign up for gimmicky Photos either, thinking I'd be going to do Concerts with People on it in the Czechish Capital.

I discovered that my Dad had done something similar when he produced the Prince's Trust Charity Concert with Status Quo in 1982. Not that long before we did our Hostage Project. Might even have been able to access some of the People who worked on Dad's Show - getting them to work on ours.

Televised Gigs from Prague - featuring Simple Minds, Dire Straits and some of the others, some working on it being in Dad's Contact Book.

Nope, that never happened and we had that Photo instead (got paid a Pint and a Cheese Salad Roll from what I remember). That and a few regional Radio Features on the Subject (grand total Payment £25!) a Feature in the Evening Post, and that was about it.

No Gigs in Prague at all!!!!!

Astonishing isn't it, how one of the coolest Governments in the World were prepared to offer them their Help in staging Concerts and they turned them down!

    Then there was this ......

I remember a Conversation when one of them told me he'd had a Phone Call from Dublin. The Implication was that U2 might want to do something and the Call was from Paul McGuinness their Manager. It isn't unfeasible either as we had an Album with People they knew, or were in competition with and they weren't going to be outdone.

The Coordinators seemed to look for every Reason not to do it, which really were Excuses. They couldn't grasp how significant this was, and how advantageous. The Prospect of U2 playing in Dublin for the Hostages would have been awesome!

I began wondering if they wanted to do anything with any if it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  46. "It's amazing .... You could almost do a U2 Concert!"

Considering all that "Achtung Baby" Zeitgeist - when the Group epitomised the Era of the end of the Berlin Wall, with that Album and those Trabant's, coupled with the potential Prague Gigs the Project was SUPPOSED to be doing, that adapted quote becomes quite poignant. Rose telling Brock how she doesn't even have a Picture of Jack is like she has a Copy of the Czechoslovak edition of the Album - which didn't use the Cover Photo.

The Hockleys and DeWitt Bukaters were part of the Philadelphia Elite, while Mr "Answers to Nothing" (Midge Ure) staged his American Side of "Live Aid" at the Cities Stadium named after Jack Kennedy. U2 rocked at Wembley during those Concerts while "We are the World" was brought to you by the same People who did the Accounts and Legal Work for the Band Aid Trust.

In the Context of what has happened in the last 6 Weeks as that Wall goes back up again further east we really ought the have done both those Prague Gigs and any potential U2 Gig.

The Prospect of anything, from "I will Follow" to "One", being played for our Project is so awesome it should never have been turned down!

    The Rebirth of History indeed!

  47. And now we wait to hear Scumbag FM talk to Ms "Yeah" on that Weston-Super-Mare Bus, like we were in that BBC Library again, because those sort of People can soooo be trusted with all this couldn't they!

  48. Crocodile Tears ..... and weepy Guitars!

Oh, the Hippie Hystrionics as Saffron Actors and Actresses start shedding those very Plastic Tears, like they'd just copulated their "White Albums". I even remember a Hippie Actress at the BBC doing this in 1993 ..... Ms Harrison.

Sheesh, but as War rages in the Ukraine and People keep mentioning Stalingrad, in the real Stalingrad is a Statue of a Bunch of Children dancing around a Crocodile!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Another Bunch of People who aren't at all for real are those peculiar People who own Guitars but never actually play them.

    I remember someone like that.

I also remember someone who did, and could, except they weren't for real either because there was a huge Sincerity Deficit in all of it.

Not so sweet in all the Light huh!

Walrus's - bit like Jabba the Hutt - with Tusks!

  50. It's 1995 and Noel had plagiarised "Imagine" - calling it "Don't look back in Anger" - he'd put Oasis's version of "Cum on feel the Noise" on the B Side! This was when Music was becoming something else..... Something it certainly wasn't when Popular Music Culture first started.

It was January 1920 and the 18th Amendment was applied in America. Jazz had been around for a few years before that, but after it, it became a Statement. Suddenly People were saying to Andrew Volstead; "I'm gonna drink this Beer and listen to that Music". It'd had become the Soundtrack to Defiance of a Law that was unpopular, unworkable and something even Mabel Walker Willibrand described as puny.

In other Words, from 1920 to 1933 it represented Freedom.

In the 1950's - after the War and post-War Rationing - Rock and Roll represented something similar in response to the bleakness of the late 40's and early 50's.

In the mid-60's John Lennon was getting restless. He'd had enough of the Pop Group the Beatles had turned into and sent up his own Songs "I want to hold your Head" he would sneer at their hit Single and he did this with others. Even Paul had to straighten his Tie occasionally. By the late 60's John couldn't wait to leave.

To all Intents and Purposes he did long before they called it quits in 1970.

Someone arrives at his House. A Fan who was taking Beatles Songs far too seriously as some sort of Life Manual. "It's only a Song Man!" the ex-Beatle implored to him.

By the time Noel had written his fake "Imagine" in 1995 it seemed he and others at the time hadn't seen that part of the Beatles Jigsaw. Beatles Anoraks who turned those Songs into Instruments of Oppression rather than expressions of Freedom.

"The Killing Fields" ends with "Imagine" as Schanberg finally meets the escaped Dith Pran in a Refugee Camp in Thailand. By the 21st Century Subscribers to its Copy had turned into Aaron Doral in "Battlestar Galactica", a particularly aggressive control Freak anti-Human Cylon, whose first Manifestation is from "Oasis".

Certainly not something you might put at the end of a Film about a Hostage Crisis in Cambodia.

  54. While it took the War in Ukraine to depth charge that one to the Surface (a sad Indictment in itself) it prompts me to ask how long before that that has been going on? Maybe since that dismal Portishead Debut! Hip Hop for posh Thugs!

Bit like Waitrose Thugs and their Dogs!

Meanwhile, as the oiky 'Management' are too thick to understand this, here's how some Creative Economics works ....

Every time you watch a Film (Cinema, VHS, Blu-ray or DVD) made by 20th Century Fox you'll see the Caption "A Newscorp Company" on the Screen. That means it is part of the same Corporation that owns FX21 ("Sons of Anarchy", "Mayans MC"), Fox News, The Sun, the Times, the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones and Company ..... and every Newscorp Publication Rebekah Brooks has worked for. Subsequently, when the Money made by "Titanic" began coming in after its Premiere in January 1997 the Hand and the Rose has been paying her, and many other NC Employees Wages for the last 26 years. Estimated at £1684042927, if you'll excuse the Expression, that would make the £10,000,000 Bonus Murdoch paid her after the Phone Hacking Trial look like a Drop in the Ocean - even after the Company recouped the Budget and paid James Cameron.

Erm, 'now' do you see why I get pissed off with the corrupt and self-Appointed Cabal that sees fit to interfere with, and exploit the Lives of People who made a much bigger Contribution to all this than they ever could!

  57. Meanwhile, I join the Dots with what happened in 2008 and found this ....

Some pseudo-liberal Shit from PBS posted in YouTube on April 15th. Comments were switched off - so the Cowards aren't even prepared to open themselves to scrutiny. A Commercial for some Crap called "BDO" - then some bollux about a Paediatrician who clips Hedges!

Hmmm, have they been talking to another Dinner Party Media Hippie called Alex?

That's a nice Job Mr K - where did you get that?

    ReplyDelete
  58. So come on PBS, switch on your Comments so People can have their Right to Reply.

And that's from someone who has known your Industry all his Life and whose People created those TV Jobs so People like Mr K can have his idyllic and lucrative Lifestyle!

    ReplyDelete
  59. And while we think those Comments on YouTube are a random happenstance of People - is any if this being read by anyone else except "Pauline from Birmingham" 'Manager'?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Meanwhile, what's French for "Road" Wellington?

And while this Shit goes on the corrupt Yippies buy another House, a bigger shinier Car, breed more Yippielets and put another Notch on their lucrative Resume!

If we were in that Shithole Pub in 1994 again I'd ask her if she could make Coffee as much as sell Beer?

Anyone else up for anti-Roads Protests outside Portishead Concerts?

    ReplyDelete
  65. You could buy a lot of Houses in 28 years, own and drive and sell or scrap a lot of big shiny Cars, breed quite a few Yippielets, have quite a few Jobs (although, where did some of those come from?), earn quite a lot of Money.

And have quite a few Holidays too!

Today is the Easter Bank Holiday, and we've had 27 of these before this, 28 Christmases, 28 Birthdays, 28 August Holidays - and on it goes.

The 90's ended 22 years ago and if you were born on the Millennium you left Uni last year.

How many Fashions have come and gone in that time? Watch the "Girls and Boys" Blur Video to realise how dated 1994 looks, while Paul Weller looks more like the Modgrandfather these days.

I was 30 when I met Mr Trip Hop in a Venue in Bristol in 1994. I'm not 30 now, and will be 59 in October. That's my 20's, 30's, 40's and most of my 50's gone, and you don't claim those back from an Insurance Company! Neither would I play Dice with a Squid Faced Bill Nighy to win them back either.

So while the corrupt Yippies do all of the above ........

    ReplyDelete
  71. I hope they are reading this in Moscow. I want them to know we aren't all like those Merchants of Fake News - the ones who lied about those 1990 Promises and are probably the cultural Progeny of those BBC Library Thugs!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Groups like Portishead would provide those sort of People with the Soundtrack for their Thug Dinner Parties (with a Side Salad of Irony), and when they did their more recent Stories about NATO vis a vis Russia - full of those Lies - and force feeding the Ukraine Kool Aid - those of us who might remember something different got sent to the Gulag.

    ReplyDelete
  73. That and the deliberate 'Cultcha' of dumbed down talentless Shit in the 90's with "Access all Areas" when we have Access to nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  74. And it's got even more pathetic .....

While that talentless Shit might at least have been seen doing at playing Guitars - People now own them and don't or can't play a note. Total Bollocks dressed up as "the White Album"!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Oh, sorry, does using the 'F' Word occasionally constitute "Foul Language"? Am I being - what was it someone said - "offensive"?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Have we got a Youtubeocracy in this Block of Flats ..... On the same Resume as the BBCocracy and the Barrowocracy apparently?

Let's - erm - nip that one in the proverbial Bud shall we .....

It wouldn't matter if Jack was Mr Scruff 1912 or Mr Immaculately Coiffered 1997 he's dealing with a Scumbag to whom he's only ever going to "almost pass for a Gentleman", even when that Scumbag might make "a Fortune in the Morning" from anything Jack does. Lot of Scumbags in that Yippie World of theirs aren't there. Lot of Hypocrites too - some of them so full of Crap!

Like the Duff-Gordons and those Boots-n-Draws!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Not only is there a double Standard on that Ship (no-one hits Guggenheim or his Mistress for having an Affair for example), Cosmo and Lucile Duff-Gordon shared a Lifeboat with 10 others that was designed for 60 - while the Allegations he bribed the Crew not to go back and look for Survivors never dissipated.

Our Man on that Ship perished.

One of the Effects found on his Body was a Gold Pocket Watch, like the one John Houseman has at the start of "The Fog" - and the one the Beachcomber had in the 2005 Remake.

A few years after "Titanic" some of the Money from it went into James Cameron's next Project, quite probably the definitive creative Statement on Ecoism "Avatar" which was even more successful. Certainly no shrinking Violet like Mr Radiohead when it came to making a Statement on the Subject.

Also, the Scene in the Dining Room suggests I'm not the only one to think Portishead are a Dinner Party Soundtrack Group.

    ReplyDelete
  78. You drown in the Hypocrisy and double Standards in this Town.

    For example .....

In 1984 I was at a Club in Bristol when my Room was searched by the DS - looking for all the Trips and Powder I was supposed to be selling. (Thanks to a Snitch who gave them wrong Information). I've never sold a Drug in my Life, and what they did find was 1.1 Grams of some homegrown Weed that had less THC than a Tea Bag. I went to Court and paid a Fine of £64 in 1984 Money.

There's more Powder going on in the Town than Guy Fawkes, and more Pills than Boots - so much in fact that it piqued the Interest of a BBC News Producer towards the end of 1997 who made a Documentary about it. Never hear about any of them getting their Collars felt - even when their 'Cigarettes' contain far more than just Nicotine. It's called "Skunk" for a Reason.

Hockleys also a spoilt, jaded Doushbag with a decidedly superior Attitude.

Wouldn't be anyone like that in this Story would there?

    ReplyDelete
  79. It was like in meant something, like we were all in this together ......

Said Ewan McGregor in what is probably the most 90's Film of the 90's - "Trainspotting" ...... except we weren't.

I remember 1994-6 and how certain, very 90's, Musicians and their Associates created that impression. It was like we were all Friends. It's like Hockleys Dinner Party - where Jack is made to feel like one of them, then when he goes back the next day he is turned away with a crummy $20.

Fast forward to the Somerset Hall and it was like that Scene with Jack - and there wasn't even a $20 in it either. Those Arseholes might have been rehearsing "LA Woman" - but Jim Morrison really could be a Dick!

Both "Mr Dickie" and Rose went to California in those Titanic Films from 1996 to work "in the Film's" too. Wonder how they got there?

Maybe I ought to have quipped; "Oh, and which one are you - Billy Zane or David Warner?"

    ReplyDelete
  80. Don't believe the Hype .....

Right up until their Cabins started flooding People on that Ship believed the Lies they were being told. That if they waited in them, stayed calm, waited for their Turn ..... Except there was no Turn. Ismay and Smith knew it, not for half the People on it. Nothing was what it seemed.

Their being polite and believing it all didn't work.

What does work is you do what Jack and his Friends do. Break that Bench off its Fixings - and charge at that Gate. If the Steward gets narky about it punch him on the Nose like the Irishman does. Or you do what Rose does with the Bloke in the Lift.

"We waited too long" Ioan Grufudds Harold Lowe says - as his Boat picks its way through the frozen Corpses in the Sea. And that was filmed in 1996. We've had another 26 years since then.

A lot happens in 26 years - as we've seen.

Why does everything here take so long?

And when it does happen it isn't what it seems. Rather like a Bunch of Sarmation Knights in a 2004 Film, as Germany's gives them their 'Papers'.

Not sure what's worse in this Story, that and all its Insincerity, or all those David Warner's and Billy Zanes!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Knights, Arthur, Excalibur, Camelot (the Hand and the Rose) - wow and awsome!!!! 'Papers' - not so wow and even less awesome!

Bit like those Warner's and Zane's - where, one day we're all in this together ..... the next??????

Not surprised Ray Winstone looks like he wanted to punch the Roman on the Nose!

    ReplyDelete
  82. We all remember Ray Winstone as Will Scarlett in "Robin of Sherwood", and how all that happened had everything to do with Knights, Arthur, Excalibur and Camelot, and nothing to do with those 'Papers' at all!

And don't get me started on someone called "Layla" - a Hawkwind Concert in 1996 and "Captain Rizz". Not only is that those 'Papers' again, it's also a bit David Warner and Billy Zane in that it was one Night only!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Looks like we've got Mr X here ....

    CU64 XCX

    ReplyDelete
  84. That and those Southville Binmen! Those Houses are full of something alright!

What's it like being in the Crustocracy?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Maybe Mr X should be forced to watch his own Film ..... particularly where we see Sid sat there, ravaged by Heroin in a Swastika T'Shirt. Mr Putin might have done!

    "Happy Days" ....

Oh dear. Let's watch the latest Films by Richie Cunningham eh Potsy! And that was the 70's! The Fonz and co used to be on TV every Thursday night!

What have those American Infotainment Companies been up to since about then?

Even "Supernatural";has an Episode about a Museum run by a slightly nerdy Bloke in Fonzie's Leather Jacket!

    "Bus Stop" .....

Hmm, but before you start with those fake Smiles and Time Tables there was a Wall running through Brislington Bristol when we did our Project (HTV being south of it) 32 years ago, when all others came down.

Now it looks like they're going back up again!

    ReplyDelete
  86. After we've made Mr X watch his Shit, he should be made to watch a rather topical Film at the moment "Enemy at the Gates". What was it Koulnikov said of the Nazis? "You know the Germans, once they get an Idea in their Heads!"

    ReplyDelete
  87. So, erm 'George' are we trying to make Peace ..... or sell Beatles Albums?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Few more Feathers in the Saffron Best huh - even if it is corrupt!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Maybe one day Koulnikov will shoot the Management. X marks the spot after all!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Maybe Jude Law will shoot Mr Harris - complete with all his Bells and Whistles! It's not the 70's anymore Mr Cunningham - it's 2022 - like it was 1991 or even 1997!

Jack and Fabrizio heave the Bench from its Fixings and smash the Steel Shutter down at Pinks After Show! "Here we are" they tell Mr Mason!

Maybe 'George' should watch "The Killing Fields" - particularly the but with Mr Radiohead listening to useless McCartney, just after those "Jets" had bombed Cambodia!

    ReplyDelete
  91. And while Koulnikov sets the Sights on his Moisin-Nagent Rifle whose "Idea" was that Roads Bulshit?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Probably the same as the callous old Man in "King Arthur" with the Papers.

We see him in Arthur's Quarters as he finds the Plaque Arthur had made of Pelagus. He callously throws it away like it didn't matter. Like People have in this story - for years, callously throwing away anything - except those crappy Papers. Ignoring any other Stuff for the sake of those Papers.

Their throwing everything else away is like ignoring everything else, from this Press Conference to the Hand and the Rose

Bors who was in "Robin of Sherwood" throws them back at his Feet.

    ReplyDelete
  93. If some 75 year old came on to you what would you say?

Even when the Beatles were still together John Lennon was getting fed up with Paul's "Granny Music". That was about 1968, what might he be saying now, driven to exasperation? Even a TV Show set in 1982 and made in 1998 has a Scene where an Edinburgh Council Estate Drug Dealer has Slade on the Stereo; "Slade are tremendous, I mean they're oota date an' all but...." ("Looking after JoJo") And Slade were early 70's!

In "Sons of Anarchy" Wayne Unser tells Gemma "It's not 1968!"

There might be Beatles Anoraks like Noel Gallagher reading this and shocked that anyone could be that antagonistic about it, or just ambivalent, but some of us didn't spend the 90's being a "Rock and Roll Ssstarrr"! He and his are as relevant to me as the Small Faces might have been Nelson Mandela in a 60's South Africa that wasn't at all fab and/or gear! Or how "Merry Christmas everybody" must have sounded to the Guildford 4 every December for 15 years!

When Oasis supported U2 Noel very arrogantly said they were the U2 it was ok to like and how they needed Oasis.

The thing is, after the 90's Britpop Sandbox started filling up with broken Glass and passed its sell-by Date contrived Retro began looking very dated..... and old. Hardly the Zeitgeist and more of a Scam than anything else. "Trainspotting" the quintessentially Britpop Movie shows the superficiality of it all.

While Bono, the Edge, Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton are still writing, and recording and touring as U2 where is Noels Group these days?

Go back to pre-Britpop 1991, while I was in the BBC Library getting Archive Recordings of the Lebanon I had "Achtung Baby" in my Walkman - what did "Penny Lane" have in hers? While U2 summed up the Zeitgeist what was she into? "I'm ready, ready for the Laughing Gas...." Bono opened the Album with in "Zoo Station".

We watch an Einsatzgruppen Scene in "The Killing Fields" Paul McCartney provides the Soundtrack!

It wouldn't have been so bad if that old Shit had just gone away and got older in obscurity somewhere. It didn't, and inflicted itself on younger People - which makes it completely unforgivable - and disgusting.

So, if we stripped it of all it's 60's Affectations what would you say to a 75-80 year old who came in to you like they thought they were Dave Clarke or Steve Marriot in 1965?

Dirty old Men and Women who don't know when to fuck off and retire!!!!

    If McCartney wasn't a Rock-Pop Star he'd be a Pensioner with a Bus Pass!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Bit like the dirty old Men and Women who run Portishead aren't they!

    ReplyDelete
  95. And if George Harrison wasn't and Eric Clapton isn't what they are they'd be Pensioners with a Bus Pass too ..... Niel "Roads"!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wonder if that Piano in Hockleys Cabin had "Fender" written in it!

    ReplyDelete
  97. "I didn't get it, didn't let it in"

Bill Paxton said that in 1996 - not last week, year, decade or 20 years ago. When he did I was 32 for most of that year. About the same Age People I would be working with now, if I went back in.

The thing is, I'm 58 and if you are 32 now you were born in 1990. That means you probably started buying CDs or Music in about 2005. I neither have a Clue or care less about what was happening in Music then or now, so what would we talk about? You can't sit there like a Robot not saying anything.

People my Age, (however many might be left), would be on the top Floor by now. Senior Management, Senior Producers, Directors, Executive Editors - even Director General. The sort of People I'd never have access to. Kennedy was US President when he was 20 years younger than me.

I'm not sure there's anything left to be let in to is there?

"In the name of the Father" is a good Film for exploring all this.

When Gerry Conlon and Paul Hill went down it was the mid-70's. They were going to form a Rock Band - they tell Annie McGuire. 15 Christmas's, Birthdays, Easters, August Bank Holidays etc later they're too old to form a Band, or at least one that might be relevant to 1990. What sort of Group would they be as all their Culture References were 15 years out of date? As the Film shows, Carol Richardson was only 17 when she was convicted. She was 32 when acquitted and released. She missed her late Teens and all her 20's.

How different must the World have looked to them in October 1989 to the one they knew in 1974?

15 years is about the time since I met others from this Story. Mr Havel when that happened. "Pirates of the Caribbean" was the must-see Film of the time - while how different do People look then compared to now?

15 years is over twice as long as John McCarthy's Captivity in Beirut. While he was away WTN (his Boss) were laying off Staff so what sort of Office might have come back to? When he left for Lebanon Jill Morrell was his Fiance. Not long after he came home they had become just Friends. So just 5 and a half years can be a very long time.

In just recent Weeks and the tragic and brutal Events that have happened People quote Lenin who said; ""There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen!"

Quite, and what will the World look like after all that?

It was bad enough in the years up to and including 1996 when Ioan Gruffudd "waited too long" in "Titanic".

    It's now 2022!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I'm not even sure some of that Portishead Stuff was written by them.

I'm 58 and I'm not cynical enough to write that sort of Stuff in the toxic Environs of 2022, so how could a bunch of very early 20-Somethings in the early 90's? That maybe it was written by People far older.

It's like some of that so called 'Indie' from the time. Supposed 'Alternative' Music - recorded in very mainstream Studios, with very mainstream Budgets. Supported by very mainstream Music Media and sometimes used in very mainstream Commercials.

But then, the Beatles seem to have a malign Influence long after their sell-by Date has expired and People often wonder about them too.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Castle Black ....... Black Castle!

Even "Game of Thrones" alludes to something without even saying it.

Take a Map of Bristol (or even the Google App) and a Compass that does point North and go to the ITV West Building in Brislington, Bristol. Go to the Arno's Court Triumphal Arch and align it with the Black Castle Pub. When you have, check your Compass. You'll see that the Arch acts like a Barrier or Gateway to the North, while the ITV Building is south of it.

If you saw the TV Series or have read the Books you'll know that Castle Black was the Citadel for the Nights Watch while the Gate and the Wall seperated the wealthy South from a North where there was nothing.

When we did our Hostage Project the Building it was based in (since demolished and where the Hyundai Dealership is now) was north of that. While there were far more lucrative things going on in what was then HTV - we were struggling on various forms of Social Security and living a very uncertain Hand to Mouth Existence. Later in the 90's someone was in that HTV Building - making a TV Show about Lifeboats. Long before that the Maisey's worked there, for HTV, along with the Man who would be Greatjon Umber in the "GoT" TV Show..... Clive Mantle - who was Little John in "Robin of Sherwood". (Greatjon Umber, Smalljon Umber ...... Get it?)

While Alison Holloway worked there in 1985 I was even further north - on a £5 a day Gig in a Record Shop, while the very name Southville seems quite self-explanatory!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Nothing passed south of that Wall in Westeros - nothing passed south of it in Brislington either it seemed, and while "GoT" was based at the Titanic Studio in Belfast what does that say about that Ship?

    ReplyDelete
  101. ..... And to further illustrate this ..... while Kieran Hinds from Belfast played Mance Rayder in "GoT" he also played Brian Keenan in the 1992 TV Movie "Hostages"..... while Kathy Bates, who played Terry Anderson's Sister - Peggy Say was "Titanic's" Molly Brown!

If you remember the Plot Mance didn't want to conquer and occupy the South, he wanted to bring his People there where Life was safer and more certain.

So why's that Wall still there?

    ReplyDelete
  102. One thing I get a Sense of Justice from is how "Titanic" knocks every spiteful little Pop Group into the proverbial cocked Hat.

We are told the Beatles have sold 290 Million Records worldwide. Others tell us the Stones sold 100 Million in the same timeframe. The Eagles - the second biggest - at 180 Million while Pink Floyd have shifted 130 Million, all of these since their Debuts as long ago as the 1960's and 70's.

Impressive Stuff huh - like the Spice Girls at 80 Million or Madonna with a whopping 335 Million ..... Phew!!!!

Something like 1.4 Billion People have seen "Titanic" since 1997 - still the biggest adjusted Box Office Figure against any other Film in History. And that is in the last 27 years, without the 34 years head start the Beatles and Stones have had, or the years since Madonna's Debut.

John Lennon once boasted the Beatles were bigger than God - "Titanic" was bigger than John Lennon. Even his old Bandmate McCartney has a very long way to go to catch up with the James Cameron Film, and in how many years?

    ReplyDelete
  103. The Deliverability .....?

Hmmm, except what I did like about this Film and those Cameron's was how they bookended the Blair-Brown Government. The Film in 1997, David Cameron's Government in 2010.

It's like the Film sends Rose into the next 13 years - while the Cameron at the end of them (who is married to one of the Astor Family) can ask her ..... "So where's Jack?" or, "this is all very nice - but you seem to have left someone behind", maybe even do what Mr Bodine does, try and find Jack on any of those Passenger Lists!

Instead of anything like that Tony Blair goes on about the "Deliverability" - which presumably means the 'Paperwork'. Looks like we're back to Dixon of Dock Green eh Mr Warner! What a Shyster!

And who was behind that Sleight of Hand with the Letter in the Cafe - containing that Catalogue? I didn't "deliver" it - while I'm not an Electrician either!

Meanwhile, let's do some more Arithmetic ....

If you're a 70something now, how old were you 32 years ago? Maybe even 27 years ago?

Suffice to say you were probably one of those old Bastards making those disgustingly segregationist Decisions about People's lives in 1990 and 1997!

Dirty old Men and Women indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Y'see - Mr 'Paperwork' didn't write a Press Pack that got these People to give Songs to an Album .....

Tina Turner, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, Pete Townshend, Chris Rea, Midge Ure, Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, Deep Purple, Steve Hacket, Mike Oldfield, Talk Talk, Clannad, Steve Winwood, the Moody Blues, Icehouse, Julian Cope, the Korgies, Jools Holland, Todd Rundgren, Gail Anne Dorsey, Dave Edmunds, All about Eve and Roy Harper.

Neither did his People donate free use of this Facility to said Project.....

    https://hirespace.com/Spaces/London/11838/The-Waldorf-Hilton-Hotel/The-Adelphi-Suite/Business

While they didn't create this .....

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_HTV_West

    Own and/or edit these ......

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Times

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Observer

Or have anything to do with this .....

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/RKO_Pictures

    Or campaign for .......

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balfour_Declaration#:~:text=The%20Balfour%20Declaration%20was%20a,a%20small%20minority%20Jewish%20population.

And a whole bunch of other things.

So this Shit with Mr 'Paperwork' is either a filthy Scam dressed up to look like something else, the Result of People living up to the Stereotype and are too thick and stupid to realise it, or too pathetic to do anything about it!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Doesn't say much for the Theme Park does it. Spent all that Money on tarting it up and all it has to offer is the 'Paperwork'!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I don't know how many times I've said this, while I could set up in the Street with a Flip Chart and Diagrams and still make no Impression. Because that has gone on for so long, and the Regime of Obtuseness is beyond Recalcitrance, I think there's something they aren't telling us don't you!

    ReplyDelete
  107. Looks like Kylie Pop Nazi is still at it. Skulking around the Subtext of the Ukraine War!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Old Grey Whistles..... ?

In a Documentary about Punk quintessential Hippie Prog Radio and TV Presenter Bob Harris said Music was an accurate Gauge about the Society that made it ......

"Woodstock Diaries" shows someone in a While ed and Black Checked Shirt who could have been from Rent-a-Hippie using synonymous Jargonese.

Fast forward to the late 70's and 'Mr X' is saying the same thing in a Film showing Sid Vicious in a Nazi T'Shirt, ravaged with Heroin. You could rewind again to hear arch-Hippie John Lennon singing about his "Cold Turkey".

The first Rule of Journalism is; if you have 2 unrelated Sources saying the same thing you have a Story. This usually applies to People you interviewed within a few Hours of each other, or Days - maybe even a Week.

These are People spanning an 8 year Period and in different Continents. And supposedly from different Subcultures too. If THEY'RE unrelated that is certainly a Story about what those Cultures are about. If they are related then that collusion which is self explanatory.

You're a Russian in Moscow and you have Film Streaming, DVD, Blu-ray and even VHS. Maybe you've seen this Stuff and how it seems to be encroaching onto your Borders. Because recent years have meant you got through the Lies, Propaganda, and PR - seeing what it has done to the Lives of its own People.

    How might you respond?

So, Mr Harris, what was it you said about Music being an accurate Representation of its Society? And what if Hippie and Punk had become as mainstream as Kylie Pop Nazi and other Pop Brats who've never lived in the real World?

When it all seemed like a harmless Game in the 60's up to February 23rd no-one ever thought anyone would invade anywhere in retaliation. The Politics were different while NATO always kept to its Mandate!

The Problem is, there's only so long that can contain the above mentioned Shit (and that's what it is) before it starts crashing against other Countries and parts of the World who might not agree with it.

That has been going on for quite a while, and while other Theaters have been fought over and collapsed, still fought over, or fought over by Proxy, this time it's going up against something far bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I was only 5 and a Half when 'Mr X's' Hippie Mother was at Woodstock. Maybe she'd like to tell us what Children that Age are supposed to have done to so offend her?

    ReplyDelete
  110. And when she does, maybe others would like to explain why the Narcocracy or Drugocracy seem to have more Momentum in this Life than I do. Maybe they'd like to tell that Man in the Kremlin. Also, if this Theme Park is supposed to be a shining Example of Post-90's British Prestige why's it run like a Media Reality TV Show meets Abu Graib?

    ReplyDelete
  111. C'mon George, fess up and tell the World what the old Bastards have been running here for years!

And while 'Mr Clarke' does that - Tony - what might we see if we really did look into those 'Trees'? As many Shamrocks as those English Roses me thinks! Oh dear!

Even if George wants to swagger about in Caps-n-Bowler "Clockwork Orange" style - we go back to October 1962 it was a Dragons Friend who ensured the Drab Bore could release "Love me do" in anything but a Nuclear Winter. Y'know, being topical and all that!

And having mentioned that, what colour was that Money they found in Hockleys Safe in the Film? The Money he used to bribe William Murdock and tried buying off Jack with! We haven't had a few Brown Envelopes from the Kubrick's have we? Suffice to say "Titanic" beat the Crap out of anything he ever made .... and so it should.

Back in "Penny Lane" where all the dirty Slave trading Hippies are it gets even worse than Woodstock Hippie Nazi Lady because I was only 4 in 1967. And while "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" wasn't the Nursery Rhyme Paul claimed it was what's a Walrus if it isn't Jabba the Hutt with Tusks?

    Nazis and Drug Addicts ......

Either those Responsible are such committed Nazis they are totally intransigent and thus should meet a horrible, but deserved Fate, or they've done so many Drugs they're convinced that War is a Video Game with special FX Pyrotechnic Explosions fake Blood and Prosthetics.

    It's none of these!

    ReplyDelete
  112. And - erm - nah, don't want your Triple Treats or £3 Thanks - Mr Cole Parker!

    ReplyDelete
  113. "Comfortably numb"?????

While "Cold Turkey" wasn't John Lennon singing about his Christmas Dinner, the Pink Floyd Song isn't about those day to day Creature Comforts. As Putin wages his War on those Nazis and Drug Addicts Pink from "The Wall" is both! If he lived here and saw the Contrast in Lives between those involved in that, and those who aren't he'd think it was compulsory.

The Man who played that weepy Guitar on "The White Album" was so ravaged by it he did one Concert lying down on Stage. He was also responsible for turning a Lady if Harlech on - with rather bleak Consequences. "It's only a Song" John Lennon once told a troubled Fan, and if People had remembered that rather than try and create some bizarre Pepperland Theme Park things would be cool.

    ReplyDelete
  114. What was potentially brilliant about Prague is how you could have done Concerts without all those tawdry, sleazy and squalid "Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll" Cliches that have left a Trail of Dead and Damaged since the 60's. Some supposed "Music Managers" and "Promoters" were nothing more than Drug Dealers - while some so called Companies were merely laundering Operations for Drug Money.

When those Russians did that Christmas Barbecue in 2007 there were no Drugs. Just good Food, some Wine, a bit of Music and pleasant Company.

What's wrong with Scuzzbag FM and post-90's Media that they don't seem to be able to do anything without the Ocracy that goes with all that Shit?

    ReplyDelete
  115. If a Bunch of People emerging from 50 years of Darkness can do it without that Shit why can't they?

If a Bunch of Russians can organise what you might call a quality Social that doesn't involve spending lots of Money in Cafes or dismal small Town High Streets without that Shit why WON'T they?

    ReplyDelete
  116. That was Christmas Night, not some random Evening any other time of the Year, while they asked me to play at their Wedding, one of the most important days of their Lives, and invited me to the Reception afterwards. And these People don't not have Careers and Lifestyles attributable to us.

Probably one of the only times a quality Event happened was that Press Conference, but that was at Waldorf Astors Hotel anyway.

Which brings me to this .....

    Terry and the Christians .....

In the Film we see the 'Congregation' singing the same Song that was played at Jack Kennedys Funeral. We see Hockleys Thug turning Jack away - trying to pay him off with a Hockley Brown Envelope. This was after the Night before when he was made to feel like it meant something, like they were all in this together. Whatever Excuses the so called 'Christians' might have fall down at the Story of Mary Magdalene - while real Christians wouldn't have turned even her away.

Also, why do some in attendance that day suppose it's called "The Waldorf"? That someone just picked 7 Scrabble Letters at random and spelt W.A.L.D.O.R.F? Has someone in this got a Stick up their Arse or maybe some of those Brown Envelopes? Who was financing that crappy Beatles Revival anyway?

We now pause to see if Scuzzbag FM contact the usual Suspects in the Narcocracy like they have done for years ......

    ReplyDelete
  117. And I still don't want your 3x£ Coins Tony George ..... However much you might tell People to "Look". I still want to know where the Invite to the New Labour Dinner Party was - as they had those Years started with the Hand and the Rose?

    ReplyDelete
  118. And it seems the Media Dinner Party Club are still rigging the Game. There's one of those Podcasts about how Trump committed less Evil than Bush and Obama. Not only does my Insincerity Detector go off, I also noted the Names of those involved. Presented by someone called "Nick" the Guest was called Greenwald. Yeah, I've seen "Murder on the Orient Express" too Mr Greenwood, except at least Albert Finney was entertaining. He wasn't a 90's Nazi either!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Here's a thing .....

While some of that 90's Stuff was of questionable Talent those People might do something towards playing a Guitar or Bass. Now, it seems you have People who own Guitars - but do they even play them? I knew someone who had a very expensive hand made Guitar - but never played a Note.

Are they just juxtapositional Nonsense vis a vis the "White Album"? The big Joke is, if you work at playing you really do get "Blisters on your Fingers" and it can be quite painful. I've been playing for 41 years and still have to go through some Pain Thresholds when learning or practicing something new.

People should be careful when they use Words like "lazy", because while Thom tells us "anyone can play Guitar" learning to play one can involve a lot of hard work. Owning one involves no Work what so ever!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Looks like the Ministry of manipulated Information are still at it with their Sectarian, divide and rule, Games. I write neither as a Muslim, Arab, Palestinian and certainly no Jihadist but there's a Game they play that subliminally channels you into one of these and others into the Judeo-Christian World ...... Terry!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Guess where all the Money and Opportunities have been!

This is a Game they've been up to since about 1992 when some Crap about Neo-Paganism started appearing in the Media. I'm looking for Stuff to make Radio Programs about - and no Prizes for guessing how those Christians are going to react to that!

While I'm not a Muslim, Arab, Palestinian or Jihadist ..... neither was Waldorf Astor, the People of Harlech and everyone else in all of this!

    ReplyDelete
  122. And how about TV Shows like "Magic in Animals" in 1993? How would Terry and the Christians react to that? Fast forward a few years and someone south of the Wall is in a Lifeboat making other Television Programs!

    ReplyDelete
  123. No less odd is some of this Interest in my Ebike. Just before the first Lockdown I met a Bunch of White South Africans and we had the usual Stuff - even with the obligatory Photograph. We spoke about the lack of Cycle "Paths" (Terry) in South Africa, and how the Government didn't care about "us" etc.

This and those Brown Envelopes from Kubrickland, Mr K, stuffed with Hockleys Orange Dollars - it all starts looking like it's full of something!

    ReplyDelete
  124. If People are going to act like a Bunch of Conspirators in a John Carpenter Movie they should give it all back to us! And stuff their fascist Theme Park, "perfect" or otherwise.

Louis Bodine tells Brock that he's "so full of Crap" ...... Sherlock!

    ReplyDelete
  125. So - erm - 'now', if I'm neither Muslim, Arab, Palestinian or Jihadi, and as it's most famous Celeb was her from "Countdown", why has this supposedly shining Example of post-90's Brit Prestige been run like it was A.B.U G.H.R.A.I.B probably since "Dummy" was released, and if a War now rages in Ukraine against Nazis and Drug Addicts - when are Portishead changing their Name to Kraftwerk and calling that Song "Autobahn"?

    ReplyDelete
  126. And if they are going to act like that, and the Conspirators in a John Carpenter Movie - while others treat us like we have Social Leprosy, maybe they'd like to give it all back!

What happens to the Theme Park and it eponymous Group would no longer be my Concern ..... if - it seems - they ever were to start with!

Oh, erm "Dobry Ootra" by the way!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Oh, and now (sic) it seems the "Be here now" (but not really) People are pretending it's the 1970's - again! This time "Roads" or should that be "Autobahn" is sung by Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale and this is supposed to be a fictitious Prison called HMP Slade.

The thing is - this isn't the 70's when I might have been anything from 6 to 17. If we must "Be here now" Noddy Gallagher I'm 58 and this is 2022.

If this was another Gaol notice the Colour of the Money in Hockleys Safe. The Cash he stuffed the Brown Envelope with and bunged William Murdoch while his Thug tried bunging Jack! Stanley probably thought he was the big Cheese in Films with his boring ponderous Hippie Crap - until "Titanic" came along with some real Life Characters telling him his wasn't only full of Shit, he was also a Crook.

Erm - 'now' - let's wait for Doushbag FM to go snivelling to "Mark" so they can have their Scumbag Dinner Party with "Mirrors and Razorblades".

Oh, and Dobry Ootra - again!

    ReplyDelete
  128. And no matter how much those Nazi Drug Addicts put up their Noses, in their Arms, in those funny Cigarettes, Sugar Cubes, Microdots or Blotting Paper - that 1970's BBC TV Show was just that, and nothing more. Rather like that War is not a Video Game with Pyrotechnic Explosions, CGI and Prosthetics.

    ReplyDelete
  129. The 'O' Word .....

Maybe the reason the Ukraine is ravaged by War is because certain People in Portishead, Radio Bristol and Weston-Super-Mare told Secretary of State James Baker that "Not one Inch Eastwards" was "Offensive". They'd have probably said the same thing in 1962 to Jack and Bobby Kennedy, Khrushchev and Dobrynin!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Meanwhile, Hockley is in his Cabin with the soon to be reformed Rose ..... The 'B' Side to Oasis "Don't look back in Anger" plays on the Gramophone. (Maybe the Intro to the A Side was played on that Piano).

"Look Kate, at all my Orange Money!"

Jack is Busking outside on the Ship somewhere, playing "Where the Streets have no Name!"

    ReplyDelete
  131. Why that Song?

    Here's how it starts .....

"I want to run, I want to hide, I want to tear down the Walls that hold me inside ......"

Where the Streets have no Name .... as an Alternative to Slade Road Noddy Gallagher. And while that Lyric was how U2 opened their awesome "Joshua Tree" Album Liam Holder and Co started one of theirs with a Gary Glitter Song .... Oops!

    The U2 Tune continues ......

    "The city's a flood
And our love turns to rust"

    The Ship floods, then sinks.

And when they open the Safe you can see how that Rust has turned Hockleys Money orange!

Kate Winslet starts turning into Kate Beckinsale whose Father was in .....?

When they filmed those "Titanic" Scenes it was 1996 - not 1973 Noddy, while U2 never began their Albums with dodgy Glam Rock Songs!

More like "Be there then" eh Noel!

    ReplyDelete
  132. And while "Woodstock Diaries" and "The Filth and the Fury" corroborate Muscovite Suspicions about Nazis and Drug Addicts, I wonder what they made of Britain in the 90's and those Stories about Paul Gadd? Try googling "Glam Rock was crap" and find anything negative about any of that early 70's Shite!

Even Drug Addict Danny in "Looking after JoJo" says in a Scene from 1982 "they're oota date".

    ReplyDelete
  133. And maybe that Scene sums up Noels Britain ..... The Series being like "Trainspotting" without the Jokes and Ewan McGregor!

    ReplyDelete
  134. "Looking after JoJo" - an accurate Snapshot of Britain in 1998 when it was made, even though it was set in 1982, and because certain People were obsessed with that 70's Retro Crap for some of us it might as well have been the 1973 when Slade recorded that Song. That or the 1982 when it was set. "Trainspotting" showed how crap and insincere it all was anyway; "It was like we were all in it together" McGregor narrates.

What makes it particularly awful was how it was so potentially awesome. While those responsible were contriving how to inflict the early 70's on us U2 captured the Zeitgeist with an Album that celebrated the end of the Berlin Wall. Even the Trabant's were set free and appeared at their Concerts.

Maybe someone should do a "Spitting Image" type Caricature of those Retrophiles in a Production Office somewhere like Patsy and Edina from "Absolutely fabulous".

    ReplyDelete
  135. What pisses me off about the last 30 years is how they throw Currency (social as much as fiscal) at dirty Narcoists and indulge their Scapegoating - but never at us. The Kylie Subtext on social Media like YouTube suggests Ramsey Street is full of Drug Dealers!

    ReplyDelete
  136. And the YouTube Dinner Party continues.

While my Car Port has been empty for the 36 years I've lived here because I could never afford a Vehicle to keep in it there are others whose Transport is renewed every few years. Some of these have seen fit to occupy my Car Port occasionally.

Vehicles, of course, always have a Number Plate, and what I've been watching about an Israeli Attack on the Al Axa Mosque in Jerusalem has as much to do with one of these as it does any Assault on Palestinians.

This is yet another blatant Attempt at creating a Victim Culture of the sort I knew about 20 years ago. Rather like other Forms of Tokenism more recently.

Suffice to say, these 'poor little Victims' seem to be able to renew their Vehicles every few years while I've never been able to afford even one of them.

And, yeah, I've seen the Scene in "The Fog" too!

Maybe if these 'poor little Victims' stopped acting like Antonio Bay Conspirators, treating People like they have Leprosy - like they have for over 42 years some of us might stop watching the famous John Carpenter Movie.

Also, perhaps you could ask the 'poor little Victims' who seem to have more Access to everything than I do about what happened in 2008!

Next thing you know they'll go on about those Snakes and Ladders eh Mr Jackson!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Next thing you know well have a Fiddle on the Roof playing outside Waitrose eh Ms Cole.

    Never liked Topol

    ReplyDelete
  138. Not like that for those 'poor little Victims' of course!

    ReplyDelete
  139. Blake should continue his Assault until we get it all back.

Maybe one of Putin's Missiles will misfire and land on the so called 'Management' responsible for all this Shit!

    ReplyDelete
  140. And while the PBS YouTube Channel seems to have their Comments switched off, so have the Telegraphs .....

    Those "Divert Pots" huh!

So much for People's Right to reply!

    ReplyDelete
  141. I'm pro-Blake whenever I watch "The Fog". A Bunch of Murderers getting what they deserve, however Pot Pouri their Heads might be!

You can watch the Film as a Literalist - where Blake's Affliction is an actual Disease, or as a Social Leper - meaning spending ones life in Coventry. I prefer the latter because it's more accurate in this Context. It was crap in the years up to 1979, and while there was no improvement in 25 years - despite everything - they remade it with an updated Subtext showing a Town that had had substantial Redevelopment.

    ReplyDelete
  142. And if the Titanic was the most famous Shipwreck in History it's most famous Passengers Body was found with his Gold Pocket Watch. Like the one John Houseman has at the start of the original - and the Beach Comber has in the Remake!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Now ..... what's going on in these Cafes?

    ReplyDelete
  144. And it looks like Gordon the Morons Dinner Party strikes again. A supposed 'Ad' on YouTube talking about Cryptoscrip - except this so called 'Ad' is about an Hour long - and he keeps saying "John" at the end of each Sentence. Obviously a Ploy so we end up "watching Telly" like that crappy "Jilted John" Record.

    ReplyDelete
  145. And where's that stupid Plane going as it flies from Left to Right in Waitrose.... Kigali?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Maybe they should dub "The Fog" with British Accents ..... Give Nick Castle and Stevie Wayne Glaswegian and Guildfordian Dialects!

    ReplyDelete
  147. After we've done the polite Chit Chat Shit about Accents and all that, I want to ask either of them what the fucking hell they think they've been running here since I met one of them in Costa in 2007? And don't call me "Buddy" fucking Yippie Nazis!

    ReplyDelete
  148. The Divisiveness in Portishead had its 90's Preamble.

The Infotainment Industry created that Group, with their Cronies and suddenly it was like a Wall went up, and this is before they began building the Developments that would house the desired Demographic.

That Group was a Proxy for other Creative Economics - until you had a Bunch of People one side of that Wall and another on the other. This happened elsewhere with other People (those Crusties on 90's Bristol). Suddenly those "First Class Passengers only" Signs aren't too outlandish an Accusation as a Comment on Segregation.

I have less and less Sympathy for a Bunch of People who I've begun to describe as "Brats". So called ' poor little Victims' who are better off than, and have more Access to everything than I do. What, for example, has the Telegraph been up to in recent years? How about some of those Film Companies in not so recent ones?

While all this went on for nearly 30 years I still have my Script from 32 years ago - pointing at some of the things on it asking what about this, or this ......... ?

    ReplyDelete
  149. Here's a Phenomenon I've mentioned before ....... And it's quite bizarre.

    The Docuocracy.

These are People who re-enact Scenes from Documentaries.

For example. Many of us have seen the one by PBS about Iraq called "Truth, Lies about Iraq" and the Incident with the Tank and the Taxi. A bunch of Guys were caught looting Wood by a Tank Crew - who crush the Car with their AFV .

Someone on probably the poshest Street in the Development decided to leave some Wood right in the middle of the Road so yours truly would end up cycling over it. When I did someone appeared in a Pink Hoodie and got into a Car.

If this is supposed to be a Comment on the Iraq War I've been against it since it was first suggested nearly 20 years ago. You'll see some of that in the Iraq War Posts. Also, if that very posh Neighbourhood is supposed to be one of the many War ravaged Cities and Towns in Iraq where are the bombed Buildings, burned out Vehicles, cratered Roads and Humvees? Continuous Airstrikes and Explosions?

Utter nonsense, just a bit pathetic, very erroneous, and rather peculiar.

I call it the Docuocracy because it creates the impression that only certain People are allowed to be critical of the Iraq War.

  150. Back on Fennel Road, I remember seeing a Gayle Ann Hurd lookalike about 8 Months ago. "So what" People might say? Currently watching a Podcast about the War in Ukraine and note, not only the names of those on it, but also how they're paid out on the Screen. Top Row reads; someone called Gayle, another called Mariana Budjern and the last being a former Ambassador called Steven Pifer.

Am I watching a serious Attempt to resolve the Crisis or a subliminal Promo for a Stranglers Song .....?

    ReplyDelete
  151. Don't call me "Buddy" ..... Holly!

Elsewhere in the Commentsonthe ukrainewarocracy is someone called Liam Peach. He's an Economist commenting on the Effects on Food Supplies by the War. Not quite the Donbass or Crimea I remember that Horseshit in Waitrose a few years ago involving a Glaswegian Vet and someone who'd lived in the Stranglers home town of Guildford, Surrey.

These were supposed to be so called Newbies - People who arrived here in the last 15-20 years or so. That Record by the Stranglers was 1977!

Would the Stooge for either them or UA - their Record Company - please stand up. Oh, I see you already are - in Waitrose! I might have been sat down, but I'm not a 'central' European Country.

Oh, and while the Ukraine is being laid waste in a War on Nazis and Drug Addicts - what's that Song "Golden Brown" about again?

I was 12 when "Peaches" was released as a Single!

    ReplyDelete
  152. It's - erm - 'cool' is it, to have a bunch of dirty old Men from Guildford (Jet Black was 39) pick on Children who haven't even reached their Teens?

I wonder how those Waitrose Yippies would feel if those sort of People went to work on their Children before they were 13?

  154. The Doublespeak Detector goes off again ......

Yet more bulcrap Doublespeak Cryotos ...

STEPN - which might just as much be a Ukrainian Nationalist as any sort of Currency. It also apparently has something to do with Gollum from those awful "Lord of the Rings" Movies! Y'know - the Design for Life for posh 90's and Millennial Yippies. Something about those "Sneaker Holders" also suggests another shit Song from the Buzzcocks. Dirty 70's Labelmates with the dirty old Junkies from Guildford!

Chillis or CHZ - which are used to purchase "Fan" Tokens - which premably gets hit by the Shit. They've probably got as much to do with Holly Minogue in Lidl as they might Money.

Full of Crap erm 'really' because those Yippies didn't buy those Portishead Mansions with this Mickey 'Mouse' Scrip, while those Film and Television Jobs paid real Money that you could.

Still wanna know where those Gig Tickets are too ..... Maisey!

  155. While People travelled here from Siberia that's east of the Ural Mountains. Yekaterinburg is in the Sverdlovsk Oblast, which makes Moscow seem comparatively western.

There are People in this Story who couldn't even travel 12 Miles from Bristol, and even the comparatively miniscule 140 from London.

Not only did those People travel more than 3000 Miles, we had what you might call a quality Social. A full on Beach Party with good Food and Drink on Christmas night, not just some random Evening in the year. Similarly, when you get asked to do the Music for a Wedding and go to the Reception afterwards that's one of the most important Days of their Lives where you also meet their Friends and Family. This was no Beverage in a Paper Cup, sat in some dismal 1970 Precinct or a small town High Street ..... again!

Those Russians didn't have Jobs, Careers and Lifestyles that are attributable to any of this either.

There are those in this who haven't even so much as made a Cup of Tea that didn't cost £2.50.

    So what's their Excuse?

    ReplyDelete
  156. The Almosts are currently writing and rehearsing a new Song ..... "Schoolies in Redcar?". It starts with the Intro to "Interstellar Overdrive". The thing is, it's a Question Song ...... not a Statement!

It's also a Comment on something skulking around the Hate Network.

We're also working on a Remix of Roni Size's "Brown Paper Bag".

Oh, and no thanks for the Pink Boots by the way .... Mr Cairns!

  157. Meanwhile, I'll have to search for a Video of Bob Dylan or Jimi Hendrix playing "All along the Watchtower" to see what colour Guitar either of them play. People told them it wouldn't catch on!

  158. Meanwhile, it seems the Portishead Dinner Party Set, where the Media turned the Town into an Extension of the sort of Crap I remember at the BBC - have decided to use the War in Ukraine as the latest in a long line of Excuses going back to the early 90's!

  159. Oh, and maybe if Mr MI6 had done his Job properly instead of reading Tolkien and watching Kubrick Shit so Hitler and Helga can flounce around the Garten maybe we wouldn't be in this mess .....

Which brings me to this ....

Maybe Teachers and Academics past and present could explain either to my Family or even my former Junior School Teacher in Cambridgeshire why I never went to University.

It was 1982 and I took a Week off work to go home and see some old Friends. Many of them were in the 6th Form at that time and it was great to see all of them at once. While there I met my old Junior School Teacher from when I was in what used to be called the 2nd year. He thought I was studying at the University because of my Aptitude when he taught me in 1972-3. I wasn't although I wanted to be, and he seemed disappointed, not in me but in the Circumstances that meant I wasn't.

When I met my Family in 1996 I was studying part-time at Bristol University and they couldn't understand why I was a Student in the mid-90's instead of the mid-80's.

    I've often wondered that too!

I'm now 20 years older than Kennedy was when he was President and I very often wonder what I might have done if I had gone to University (maybe even the Cambridge my Teacher thought I had) instead of all that other Crap.

  160. Unlike their Father those Children of Harlech succumbed to that late 60's Hippie Shit. Subsequently, there were no People of Harlech counselling Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama or Joe Biden, because that selfish Hippie Crap is oh so important.

In the late 79's we had a similar thing here. Media Hippies whose Instruments might be different but the squalor, the lies, the deceit is the same. But they were oh so important too so they could flounce around the Bertechtsgarten too!

    ReplyDelete
  161. The Ukraine is in flames because of a lot of broken Promises 32 years ago. You're reading this because of a lot of other broken Promises at about the same time. That and the same sort of corrupt Media Hippie Shit in the late 80's that went on in the late 70's!

    ReplyDelete
  162. And what speaks Volumes about the aforementioned is how I remember my former Junior School Teacher lived in a Council House, not a Portishead Mansion adjacent to a Yuppie Marina!

  163. Looks like the Hippie Nazi Puppet Show is at it again ......

After writing all that Stuff about the Peshmurga Kurdish Fighters in Iraq and Syria - fighting ISIS an Actor (yep, typical Showbiz Horse Shit) with a juxtapositionally useful Name has decided to 'volunteer' himself to fight for the YPG. It's rather like the difference between the real Brenda and Elaine I met at this Press Conference and the fake Brenda's and Elaine's the Nazi Dinner Party Cronyists have juxtaposed here instead!

The next one is a green
The last one is a Turquoise ....."

Mr Roussos sings, but Vangelis shakes his Head as if to say "that's crap". Demis agrees and they opt for the first 4 instead.

This is a Comment similar to the previous one. The Portishead Hippie Nazi Puppet Show has been up to all sorts of Shit for years!

But it's amazing how the Powders get your Whites so clean huh!

    ReplyDelete
  165. As much as not playing Drums in a crusty Punk Band allows me to have an Opinion about anything ......

    Manufactured Dissent ......

The Key here ...... Look for the built-in Obsolescence!

There are many thinks in the Media meant to create the Impression that it's to promote social Justice, set you free etc .. but is it?

The 1993 Film "In the Name of the Father" shows Daniel Day Lewis as Gerry Conlon, wrongly convicted Guildford 4 Bomber whose Conviction was overturned, just returned to Belfast singing a Gary Glitter Song. In 1999 Glitter was arrested for downloading Child Pornography.

In more recent years our Infotainment Industry was rocked by Investigations like Operation Yew Tree and Elveden - which saw Celebrities indicted for a range of Sex Offences - from Rape to Paedophilia. In America Hollywood was shocked as Harvey Weinstein went down for 25 years for multiple Rape Offences ..... and on it went.

But are you saying no-one knew before all this?

Of course they did. BBC Presenter Paul Gambochini claims he bit his Lip for years about what he knew about some Colleagues. Even in his Punk Ghetto John Lydon says he knew about them, and so probably did the Makers of the "Name of the Father" Movie about Gary Glitter. So why have Day Lewis even sing that Song?

In Music since the 60's, Paul Gadd changed his Name from being Paul Raven (managed and recorded by George Martin) to Gary Glitter, and spent Decades in the People intensive World of Rock and Roll. So no-one noticed those Envelopes marked "Stockholm" on those Tour Buses or Dressing Rooms? Like BBC Floor Managers, P.As, Directors and Janitors never saw those underage Girls and Boys going into either his or some Presenters Dressing Rooms at "Top of the Pops"?

These are just examples of Sex Offences providing the designer Achilles Heel. There are many other things that cancel out the apparent Goal if whatever the Infotainment thing is supposed to achieve.

I've just watched a load of those Podcasts about the Ukraine War and often wonder if I'm seeing a genuine Discourse on the Subject or Alfie Allen in "Game of Thrones".

As I said, as much as not being a Drummer in a crusty Punk Band doing Sings telling you to "Kill your Baby" allows me to have an Opinion on something that could be the end of all of us .... there it is!

Which is why those trying to resolve the Cuban Missile Crisis before all that psuedo-Dissent Culture started were rather more sincere!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Having mentioned that, and apparently seeing the Mediaocracy manipulating the Information to suit glib Kylie Pop Nazis, corrupt Thugs in Boiler Suits and Bowlers, and those inflatable Buses in Poacher Car Parks a couple of years ago here's the Exchange between Kennedy and Curtis LeMay ..

"“You’re in a pretty bad fix,” LeMay repeated.

“You’re in there with me,” the president shot back. And to be certain that LeMay got his point, he added: “Personally!”

That Press Card won't protect you - or that Guitar!

Maybe we need to be forced right to the Precipice of Armageddon before we cut through all that fatuous Crap.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Maybe Kennedy ought to have been sarcastic ..... Asking LeMay; "Is there something you'd like to tell us? (scanning round the Room at his Brother, Kenny O'Donnell, Robert McNamara etc). Maybe you've got some Certificate of Exemption, or you'll be beamed up at the last moment, whisked away just before the Blast. Please share so Pierre (Salinger) can do a Press Announcement". That quote by the way, is from real Life, not just in the Film "13 Days"!

Although, just re-watched that Film .... from 1999 - 23 years ago. Not that I went to see it at the Cinema you understand, as a 35 year old with anyone who might also have been into all that Camelot Stuff.

Which brings me to this .....

Has anyone else noticed how quickly this year seems to be going? It's already May 1st. In less than 7.5 years I reach pensionable age, except I haven't really lived yet. In just 12 years I'm going to be 70! 12 years ago was 2010, which doesn't feel that long ago, while 7.5 is even less.

And it's going to be a shite Retirement. I don't own a House I can sell to pay for one of those comfortable private retirement Homes they opened in the Town, while there are no Children to come and visit. I might have come into some Money a couple of years ago, but if you spread it out over 10 years the annual Amount is the same as the Dole. There was no 50k a year Salary coming in at the same time, or Property whose Mortgage I had already paid up, so it's not like I won the Lottery.

It's a bit difficult to feel young and beautiful confronted with those sort of Figures, while of course, neither is anyone else. 58 is 2 years away from 60, and sometimes it feels like it. I and those others are starting to look it too.

So are some of those Musicians. Jim Kerr doesn't look like he did playing that Nelson Mandela Concert at Wembley, while Midge Ure doesn't look like Mr "Live Aid" either.

Sometimes I wonder what chance I'd ever have of having a Partner at all in those Circumstances.

Also, while my Grandfather might have done, with and for the Ormsby-Gores, Francis Ormsby-Gore used his Harlech Title to promote alternative Medicine while he and his Siblings opened Brogyntyn to less privileged People. Could the same be said of those Bank Employees, Penelope Lane, or the likes of JP Morgan?

  177. Worse than Hockley (if such a thing is possible).

"You're about to go into the Snakepit, what are you planning to wear?" Molly asks Jack stood there in his Cords, Collarless Shirt (slightly frayed), Braces, Cap and battered Shoes.

She then gets him spruced up for Dinner.

Even if it was just for one night, Hockley gave him a Reason to get dressed up, otherwise why would he? You don't need to do so to sit in that Bench smoking that Ciggarette, sit in Steerage doing those Drawings, maybe having a Beer and 'the Crack' to the Ceilidh Band. You certainly wouldn't want to to stand around the Street, otherwise you become one of those Women he has drawn.

In 1990 I had a Reason to. Suit, Shirt with Collar, Tie, Hair trimmed, shaved, took out my Ear Ring, because I'm going to this rather plush Hotel to do that Press Conference. Very rarely do those things present themselves, apart from a Funeral maybe. Not the happiest or most positive of Occasions.

People might scoff at my Appearance, but I'm not gonna get tarted up so I can stand around like some Street Hooker.

What exactly do I need to get dressed up for?

Which Restaurant am I going to, trendy Night Club, Theater, cozy Spot with some Lady, complete with Candles and Bottle of Wine? We've just had the Bank Holiday, and the Social Diary was empty, like it was at Easter, Christmas, etc ....

So the Regime here is worse even than Hockley in the Film, while Jack doesn't just have a Reason to get dressed up, he has someone to go with .....

"I saw someone do that at a Nickelodeon - and I've always wanted to to do it" he says to Rose.

Note the Nazi Dinner Party and the WW2 Russian Soldier busts in on it. Wonder how many of those have happened since I don't know when? It could be Hockleys Dinner Party in the Film, or one of the many since a Dinner Party Soundtrack Group released their Debut. Those yours truly never gets invited to, hence the conspicui-in-absentia on those RMS Portishead Passenger Lists.

You have a War at the moment, due largely to a lot of broken Promises 32 years ago. You read this because of same at about the same time.

While Putin's People saved Christmas 2007 and some things the year after, some in this Story haven't even made a Cup of Coffee - before or after then, or the Film in 1997. Those Russians don't have Careers or Lifestyles attributable to us.

In recent Weeks we have seen a 1st, 2nd and 3rd Class Refugee System on the RMS Ukraine, Scenes reminiscent of Hockley stood in his Boat - "No, you'll swamp us" - he says pushing them away with the Oar.

And while Fitzroy McLean might laugh at Gordon the 'War Hero' from his Grave, and I might have a few Gripes about certain Cream Guitarists, at least he was THE Cream Guitarist - not a small Town 'Ginger Baker' with pretentions of 'Management'!

  184. The War by YouTube apparently. And "management" too I suspect!

I should imagine when the last Helicopter left the American Embassy in 1975 someone said; "I hope we never have to fight anyone as tough as the North Vietnamese ever again!"

They didn't. In the end they fought someone even tougher .... the Taliban.

If someone profiled those Taliban Soldiers how many in a Hundred even have a Phone? How many in a 1000 have the Internet? How many of the Villages in Kandahar they came from even have a Television?

While many NVA and Viet Cong Soldiers came from the big Cities like Hanoi and had TV and other Media some of those Taliban had probably never seen a City until they entered Kabul last year. While Westerners and ARVN in Vietnam at least lasted 10 years, the Land of YouTube and Social Media lasted a Fortnight.

Samantha Ehlingers Attitude about North Africans having to accept Famine as an acceptable Price she won't pay for other botched Foreign Policies tells you what has happened to a West that has become flabby, corpulent and horribly narcissistic.

A West that tries projecting itself onto Russians who have an incredible capacity for suffering. Had to wait 12 years to buy a Car, 10 to buy a Stereo, then have to obtain badly recorded Tapes of Pop Music from the Black Market. Who were used to empty Shelves in Supermarkets, queues for everything, and whose Currency was worthless outside the Warsaw Pact. Even before that many didn't have Shoes and slept on Straw in a Country where temperatures could plummet to minus 40.

At least People during the Cold War were aware of all this. People before that, like McLean were involved in establishing some of the World's elite Fighting Formations.

So unlike what we have had in more recent years, who didn't seem to learn anything from what happened in August last year.

  188. They killed the real Love and Peace in 1963 and 1968 anyway, while that other Crap is just a saffron Cynics Career Structure. The current Crisis has got s lot of Layers of corpulent Flab to cut through before we get anywhere close to where we were 32 years ago!

And while someone else called Jack asks Ms Turner where she got that Aztec Gold Pendant, how about those Mike's in 1993? Yeah, I'm "busy" too Scumbag, no thanks to the likes of you!

  189. The thing that connects "Titanic" with "Enemy at the Gates" isn't just the musical Refrain in James Horners Soundtracks (found in both), it's also that Eternal Flame. In what is now Volgograd a Hand comes out of the Ground holding a Flame, in Arlington Cemetery Jack Kennedys Grave is marked by a "Eternal Flame". In New York - a City Jack Astor's Family helped build - you have the Statue of Liberty!

    More Scams!

Everything else seems to go elsewhere!

Maybe we need this Crisis to cut through all that Doublespeak, Insincerity and Deceit like a hot Knife through Butter!

    ReplyDelete
  193. Maybe the World needs this Crisis ..... To cut through all the Crap.

9/11 happened and the World Trade Center collapsed, but New York was still there. The huge economic Slump happened but Wall Street was still there, along with the City of London, Hong Kong, Frankfurt - even Iceland, whose Economy was in tatters. The Pandemic happened, but the World is still there. The very wealthy could insulate themselves in their isolated Houses and private tropical Islands.

You could go back to 32 years ago, when so many positive things happened it was almost seismic. The end of the Cold War, Apartheid, the Ayatollah, even Thatcher, but here seemed to insulate itself from all of it like nothing happened. For some of us it might as well still be 1988, which is ironic considering some of our Involvement and Contribution to some of it.

William Murdoch throws Hockleys Money back at him .....

"Your Money can't save you any more than it can save me!" he tells him.

Quite, and this Crisis is the same. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos could climb into their Rockets and take off, but they'd still have to come home after a few days. Richard Branson could hide on his Carribbean Island - but the Nuclear Winter will find him there, and it would be the same for everyone else too, in their Country Retreats, Super Yachts and Forest Hideaways.

Suddenly the Layers of Crap People have insulated themselves with (and I've seen many here) won't work anymore as there won't be a World to accommodate their Excuses. The Lightswitch Fiddler can click away as much as they like, like the Cambodian Soldier in "The Killing Fields" can glue that Radio to their Ear with Paul McBeatle playing on it, those B52's will still drop the Bomb.

Considering how I've been treated in recent and not so recent years I sometimes wonder if the World is with saving anyway!
