The Scheduled War on China?????

Worse than M.A.D?????

There are those determined to turn Covid19 into a sort of biological Pearl Harbour, and have been spoiling for a Fight with China for years. Unlearned from History repeats itself, sometimes quite horribly, but it's an American-Japanese Fleet off the Coast of China, not a Chinese Fleet approaching Hawaii.

I'm certain People in Manchuria can appreciate the Irony!

Should we be worried about this?

Not at all, unless we remember that this was preceded by an American Destroyer being turned from the Chinese Coast 5 days ago. Reminiscent of what happened in the Gulf of Tonkin in 1965. The USS Maddox was within a few Miles of the north Vietnamese Coast before being engaged by NVA Boats. No Damage was inflicted on the Ship except a single Bullet Hole - but this was the precursor to the Vietnam War.

I've just seen a Documentary which effectively accuses the Government in Beijing of creating the Covid19 Virus and either spreading it, or causing Inertia as it made its exponential Journey through Humanity. President Trump insists he has seen Evidence of this while Scott Morrison - Australian PM says he hasn't.

Is this "Axis of Evil" the Sequel?

The Program looks very slick, far more than anything else by professional Broadcasters and Reporters, including Channel 4, the tenaciously brilliant People at "4 Corners" and the BBC. The Journalist looks and sounds like an Actor while the closing Credit Sequence might have been done by Hans Zimmer. It all looks and sounds very Hollywood and seems like the 'Production' responsible for "Axis of Evil" is at it again.

The Interviewees are intriguing.

Why is that former NSA General saying that to the Camera and not his former Boss? Another sounds like he's got a Script from GWB or Dick Cheney.

How did a Production Team glean all that info in just a few Weeks when the Security Agencies couldn't seem to in Years?

So are we being conditioned for a War with China?

The thing is, while Saddam only had fictitious WMD's the Chinese have very real ones. So did Iran and North Korea in "Axis of Evil 1" but saner Voices just about cut through the Madness and War was avoided.

A War with China can only end in one Conclusion. The so called reassurances about Nuclear War - "Duck and cover", "Protect and survive" - Shelters, Food and Medicine Stocks - are all Bulshit. It isn't the Blast, the Fire, the Fall out, Radiation or lack of Civic Order or Infrastructure that will kill ALL of us. It's the Nuclear Winter that follows. Dust in the Stratosphere that causes Years of Darkness and Cold where no Sunlight reaches the Earth. Everything dies, Flora and Fauna, there is no Food, no Warmth no Photosynthesis, no Vitamins.

People are surviving Covid19, who have recovered and now immune, and then share that with others in the form of Transfusions and Serum. Treatments are being developed and a Vaccine isn't that far off. The Lockdowns are as much of an Inconvenience as Rationing during WW2, but we got through that hopefully a better People.

NO-ONE will get through a War with China.

I'm totally for People knowing what happened with this Virus, but there's a huge difference between what REALLY happened, and what 'really' happened.

If all they get is the latter then who is to say it won't happen again?

It's like, how many Islamic Terrorist Incidents have happened after Saddam was executed on December 30th 2006? We had the London Tube Bombing in July 2007 - just one of many everywhere. As soon as this happened GWB's Claim that he was responsible for Al Qaida was shown to be wrong.

According to someone on YouTube called Military Post the American Deployment isn't particularly huge compared to the Chinese. The USS Franklyn Roosevelt is in Guam because of Covid19 while China has built Warships on a 4 to 1 Ratio to the US. This means the current USN Presence in the South China Sea is provocative, but not overwhelming. If Xi Jinping is sufficiently irritated by it he could sent a retaliatory Force to drive it off.

The M.A.D Doctrine or "Mutually Assured Destruction" meant that each Force in the Cold War could inflict such terrible devastation on the other, the World would be incinerated, thus no-one would ever do it.

This isn't and could lull Beijing or Washington into thinking a Strike would be winnable and limited. There were other Nuclear Era Wars where they believed this, but 1950 North Korea and 1965 North Vietnam weren't Nuclear capable, and neither were Galtieri in Argentina or Saddam. Both America and the Soviet Union were, thus never warred with each other. The Soviets invaded Poland, Hungary and Czechoslovakia but the Americans kept out of it. They had Proxies in Afghanistan but History tells us what went wrong there.

Thus, either provoking the other as they are is even more dangerous than the Cold War, or even the Cuban Missile Crisis.

And can 90's Politicians be even worse and more incompetent than President War in Cambodia, "Strategic Withdrawal" Watergate, Richard 'Tricky Dickie' Nixon?

In 1972 Nixon visited China, ending 25 Years of Isolation and met Mao Tse Tong and Zhou Enlai. It was a defining Moment in History that began a strategic and economic Process that would be felt everywhere. The Positioning with Moscow changed because of it and it resolved a Problem that had existed since the Revolution of 1949.

Every President since has visited China, seen as possibly the most important of a Presidents Itinery.

What is astonishing is this wasn't acknowledged by more recent ones. While Russia and the other former Soviet Republics signed the CFE Treaty and ended the Cold War, no such Agreement was made with Beijing. Ironically, while business ties grew and were strengthened with the PRC no Treaty exists in dealing with the Military. While you bought American Musical Instruments made in China, Beijing had its biggest Arms building Program ever.

Why didn't Bush Senior or Bill Clinton continue what was achieved with Moscow in Beijing? This might have avoided the stand-off we have now, and limited American Presence in the western Pacific!

People should say to Trump "Those 10's of 1000's of  People died in America Mr President, not somewhere off the Philippines!" How much does all that cost and presumably every Sailor, Marine and Aviator have tested negative! Ahh, they didn't and Americas biggest Military Asset in the Region is quarantined!

While People see that how must they feel if they had to cancel a Holiday or an important Business Meeting?

But the pro-War Lobby persist ............

This time we are supposed to be outraged at how the Chinese Health Ministry held "secret Meetings" as long ago as January 14th 2020 to discuss an unusual Pneumonic Illness caused by a Corona Virus. That a Memo saying this was issued to City and Province Municipalities within 24 Hours, that another was instructing them to begin a Lockdown.

Through it all we are supposed to believe it was a Cover-up meant to hide the Existence of Covid19.

But weren't our Lockdowns implemented in a 48 Hour Sequence? A gradual Process that went from Wednesday to Friday of that Week in March? That the Saturday before saw the biggest Crowds in years, from Snowdonia to Beach Resorts everywhere? That while we did this our Government also had private Meetings to discuss Strategy?

No Government is suddenly going to get on Street Tannoy Systems announcing something like this without first developing a Strategy. What would happen if Boris got on the Microphone and suddenly blurted .....

"Don't want to worry you all but a lethal Disease has arrived in Britain that we have no Treatment for and it could kill Millions!"

So what do the Producers of "China in Focus" suggest?

We put Webcams in Downing Street, the Health Ministry and all those SAGE Meetings so they are all public? That they do same in America and elsewhere?

They don't and most certainly won't.

As I've said before, they knew about the Virus on January 30th after the World Health Organisation made its Announcement and waited another 7 Weeks before bringing in the current Emergency Measures. They need to look at their own Inertia before accusing others of theirs!

While "China in focus" are critical of Beijing, who they say knew about the Virus before telling the rest of the World, Wuhan was put on Lockdown on the 23rd of January. A Week before the WHO made the announcement, so not only were they quite prompt at acting against the Virus what exactly was the rest of the World doing when a mega-City of 11 Million People and a Province the size of Italy was effectively curfewed?

What would you ask if the same thing was done in the City and State of New York? Or London and the rest of England against the rest of Britain?

Wuhan is the Travel Hub of China, not the Cold War closed City of Gorky and a statewide Lockdown in the most populated Country in the World isn't something you see every day.

As much Culpability rests with World Leaders and Media whose Inertia failed to impress on their People just how serious this is as might a Chinese Government who they feel acted in Secrecy. Hubei is on Lockdown for nearly 2 Months - but no one seemed to notice.

So while Hubei and Wuhan started resembling something from Quatermass as long ago as January 23rd what exactly were our Media reporting or writing about? There's always the continuing Soap Opera called "Posh n Beck's" I suppose, the "Kylie n Jason" of the 90's-2000's, and heck, perish the thought that the Kardashians might be deprived of their Column Inches!

I don't know about you but if I had just tried to go to or from Scotland or Wales and was greeted by Troops and armed Guards in Gas Masks on Hadrian's Wall or Offa's Dyke I'd be a bit worried!

It's the same now, as Vietnam 2 seems to be played out in the China Sea. Maybe the trite shite of All3Media is more important, although Martine's "EastEnders" stopped filming more than a Month ago. It's good to see that our Media are telling us about the potential War with China so we might be able to lobby our MPs and protest to Grosvenor Square long enough in advance to prevent it .............................................. huh!

And how about that Complacency?

Politicians weren't exactly pressured in those 2 crucial Months from the Wuhan Lockdown to ours. The Media didn't exactly fall over themselves to show us what was happening in China, and during its busiest time, the Chinese New Year.

But heck, maybe the Iraq War Flak Jacket in the Closet is getting a bit Moth eaten and they're looking for the next War to be embedded into!

And then this ...............

There's an intriguing Documentary on YouTube called "China's Secrets" about a Chinese Spy who had defected to Australia and divulged what he used to do when working for Beijing.
It claims the Australian Government had been infiltrated by China.

The thing is, it was posted on YouTube 5 Months ago which in the current Context makes it prehistoric. Comments have been switched off too.

Were the Allegations true it would severely undermine the Credibility of Scott Morrison's Government. It hasn't, and the Australian PM is unflinching in the Crisis that has prompted America's Accusations that China deliberately created and spread the Virus. If the Program had any Gravitas wouldn't Morrison have to either resign or support the American Claims? Wouldn't Australian Media be calling for a Vote of no Confidence and an Election?

Wouldn't they be using any and every Opportunity to put this to the PM and his Cabinet?
They aren't either.

Is there a concerted Effort to turn Covid19 into a Pearl Harbour and prompt a War with the Chinese?
The thing is, if this apparent Spy is what he claims Morrison would have to resign in a Scandal that makes the Profumo Affair look tame by comparison. The Defence Minister might have had a Fling with a Call Girl, but Christine Kieler never infiltrated the Government.

The Fact he hasn't speaks Volumes about his scepticism about China's deliberate infliction of the Virus.

..........................................................

Meanwhile, as the Euro-American-Japan Fleet is scaring the Crap out of everyone by flexing off the Chinese Coast, closer to home People like Richard Branson are clamouring for a Bailout.

Instead of the War mongering going on in the South China Sea how about a Peace Corp Effort? If, during WW1 and 2 Ships were requisitioned to use for Troops and Hospitals - including the SS Canberra during the Falklands War of 1982 - People like Branson should be asked if they would donate their Infrastructure Resources to the anti-Covid19 Effort. Transport is essential and Flight has replaced Ships as the main form of international Travel.

Companies like Brakes have their Vehicle Fleets lying idle at Depots while Food Producers destroy Produce. Couldn't they, and their skilled Workers be used to collect and distribute that Produce instead? There was the War Bond System during WW1 and 2, and how you bought them and were repaid once the Conflict was finished, so couldn't something similar be done with all that? That their Services might be requisitioned during the Crisis and paid for after it?

What is astonishing is how the perceived Complacency People saw in the Politicians is concurrent with an Attitude that makes some People think they have the Luxury of being as selfish or acquisitive as ever, even during this.

The Response could be one of either....

Be like President Hoover after 1929 burying your Head in the Sand and pretending there's nothing wrong, while hoping that the same Mistakes made before the Crash will somehow save the Country.
Or like President Roosevelt - and be very proactive and innovative - with new Solutions and Ideas!

One thing is certain, no-one should be like they were in 2018 once this has ended.

...............................................

A bit more than just a Jack in the Box??????

To ease People's Minds about how the Virus could be sent via Freight Covid19 can only survive on Cardboard for about 24 Hours, while Glass and Stainless Steel only sustains it for about 2-3 Days at most. Unless you have received something from Wuhan that took less than either it's impossible to have imported the Virus via any Goods you might have received!

Anything via eBay takes at least 2 Weeks!

If most things sent from China to Britain take at least a Week, and many of them up to 4 Weeks, you stand a bigger Chance of catching Covid19 from a Letter sent first class at about 4pm which arrives at 9am the next day within Britain than anything from China. If the Virus can live on Paper for 24 Hours.

If the Government even thought it was transmissible via Post and Freight Services they'd have suspended all of it. Unless you had Bats fly out of your Parcel the chances of being killed by Post are very minimal!

Also, if Rumour Mongers do decide to spread 'Theories' that the Virus arrived here via Parcels - who stands to benefit? It wouldn't be the Chinese who would lose vast amounts of a very lucrative Business, so why would they somehow deliberately inflict it via this, or any other Means? Economic Prosperity is at the very Crux of the Jinping Government, whose People put up with the Authoritarianism so this can happen. If it became apparent that it won't that Government won't last very long.

In the growing Whodunnit Tit for Tat of Blame any Accusations made towards Beijing could back fire to the other Antagonist! Also, if there was any Truth to it People in Britain would have suffered as early as the first Week of January as all that Christmas Mail came from our former Colony Hong Kong the previous December.

Having mentioned that, it's a bitter Irony that no Military Treaty was brokered by Chris Patten in his last Week's as final Governor of Hong Kong before it was handed back to what used to be called Peking.

Xi Jinping owes his very powerful Position to the recent years of economic Growth enjoyed by China due to Reforms brought in by Deng Xiaoping many years ago. He inherited those from Le Peng and others and continued them quite successfully.

But in doing so he has to balance that with hard-line Maoist Communists who would like to say "hate to say we told you so" to the Millions not yet brought up in Life by that Prosperity. Maoists who would like to see a Return to the collectivised Great Leaps Forward and Cultural Revolutions that typified the 1950's and 60's. Then there's the Oligarch Economy that has to take second place to the Party. Money does not call the Shots in Beijing against the Regime, and there are some who feel stymied by that.

The Threat posed by either is fraught, while if the Maoists prevailed in a Coup it changes Beijing's Position with North Korea. The Alignment during the Korean War would be re-established, unlike the Situation now where China has been at the very most neutral towards Pyong Yang. North Korea's Ambitions have remained contained due to its Isolation. What would happen if that no longer applied?

What the World needs more than anything is someone to negotiate with the Chinese. The thing is, who?

Who might have enough Gravitas to have sway with Beijing? America at the moment doesn't seem capable of producing anyone who might as they are all falling over each other to see who can accuse China of any and every Malfeasance. The UN are limited in their Scope because no Military Treaty with China means China are in no Violations that could prompt Resolutions. Britain gave away her main Caveat with Hong Kong and the EU aren't exactly showing Unity at the moment.

Russia's Vladimir Putin could be the only Leader who has sufficient Leverage but Taiwan might object due to a Centuries long Dispute over Territory in Outer Manchuria (Now Russian, Taipei still claim the Area as Chinese).

Moscow have their Sino-Russian Treaty of Friendship 2001, which further integrated the two Countries in mutual Co-operation and settled finally any Border Disputes. The thing is, in putting Putin in such a Position of Influence many Countries might baulk at feeling compromised with the Russians.

While all this goes on the World is stymied in creating a global Strategy in dealing with the Corona Virus. How can it if some persist in a culture of Recriminations? The Virus can not be negotiated with, whereas China can.

At the moment we are all looking down both Barrels of a Shotgun. One called Death by Disease, the other Death by Nuclear War.

I don't think Covid19 was created in any Laboratory. I think it was a natural Disease that the World was not ready for. Much has been made of things like the lack of PPE for Health Workers and that of any Treatment or Vaccine. How much less would continually updated PPE and Research into Treatment and Prevention have cost against the Military spending of recent years?

Meanwhile, in a Fit of Pique President Trump is relocating 2000 American Companies from China to India. Wonder how they're going to see that in Pakistan? The fragile Balance in the forgotten Cold War, that of India and Pakistan, has only been retained by the current Arrangement. Pakistan was poised to go to War with America a few years ago and the US installed Government in Kabul were going to support them.

What if they see India cozying up to America too much? Not only will it prompt anti-American Sentiment in Pakistan, it could also undo any Progress they made in Afghanistan.

This could throw the whole Region into catastrophe!

People might say that a Hillary Presidency could have provided the Medicare needed to deal with the Covid19 Health Crisis, except most of that would have been used up treating the Victims of her War with Russia and/or Iran. And that's assuming it didn't become Nuclear!

During the Flu Pandemic of 1918, which was concurrent with WW1 - and didn't even have the potential to be nuclear - the Federal Government were completely absorbed into dealing with the Disease in the armed Forces - at home and abroad. The Civilians had to rely on what Measures each Town, City or State implemented. It would have been the same now had the War been a conventional one. Had it been nuclear you wouldn't be alive to read this, no-one would, and I wouldn't be to write it.

  1. As 18 Hours is a very long time in Journalism I have to post an Updated Comment ......

Having mentioned the Flu Epidemic of 1918 what if you attached contemporary Conspiracy Theories to all of that?

That it was created by the Kaiser as a last Ditch Attempt to win the First World War. The Austro-Hungarians had been rolled up in Yugoslavia and Italy and were collapsing, the Ottomans had been routed in the Caucasus and Arabia, while his own Armies were being crushed in Flanders and France.

Or maybe it was cultivated by the Bolsheviks in Russia - who were the Government by then - to destroy Capitalism everywhere!

I say this because of certain Documentaries trying to establish China deliberately created and inflicted the Virus without citing any Motive!

What is that Motive, and what are the Consequences?

Why would they create and inflict a Virus so deadly it could kill every Man, Woman and Child on the Planet? That it can kill as many of Putin's Russians as it could Trump's Americans! What Response would they expect from Moscow if the FMB suspected Beijing's Intentions? How would that affect China's Military?

Why would China want to destroy it's global Market? It can't sell to its own People, they have no Money most of them, and even the Black Market, those Counterfeiters who are everywhere on the Internet, need to sell their Knock-offs to someone.

Are they somehow going to enslave us?

How, if they killed us first?

Even Adolf Hitler didn't use Chemical Weapons on the Eastern Front when he seized his "Lebensraum"! He might have had a very disparaging and chauvenist Attitude to the Slavs but he needed to enslave, not slaughter them. After all, who was going to run the Factories, Farms and Oilfields once he had won?

He could have wiped out entire Cities in eastern Europe, from Warsaw to Kiev, Talin to Leningrad, Rostov to Smolensk, he had the Luftwaffe to do it, and the Factories in Germany to produce the Weapons, but he didn't. The Holocaust showed he could, while WW1 was a testing Ground for all sorts of gruesome things.

Why wouldn't someone who believed in German Superiority want to eradicate all those other 'inferior' Races?

Were the Chinese going to blackmail the Planet?

People have laid out an intricate Pre-amble to the Virus. Chinese ex-pats hoarding PPE Equipment at the alleged behest of the CCP, a Fifth Column of Chinese Frat Organizations acting like a Network of Sleepers preparing to unleash something or other, Tongs or Mafias doing same. Secretive Work in Chinese Labs, developing Viruses in the run up to all of this. The thing is, how would they have done all of this without the '5 Eyes' noticing?

They then contradict themselves by saying China isn't ready for a War, particularly not a World War, or a Conflict with America. If they are clever enough to have done all of that without anyone noticing they are also smart enough not to try and blackmail anyone by pointing a Water Pistol at them! That if you do, you're gonna get your Arse kicked.

  2. If anyone - from Joshua Philip of Epoch Times to "China in Focus" can give us a solid Motive for why China would want to inflict such disruption to the World (being one of the most disciplined and ordered People), kill off the Market for its Economy and risk a War, and by definition a Nuclear or unconventional one - then I might ease off some of my scepticism. In the end you have to figure what that Motive was?

Also, as we are lurching towards a Cold War with China how many People know what that would mean?

Were it not so long ago, you might have asked anyone who had business or cultural Links with eastern Europe on August 31st 1939, just before Hitler invaded Poland and WW2 started.

After VE day they might have hoped they could recommence - except those Countries had fallen into the influence of the Soviet Union, and one by one they became Communist. After that, it wasn't business as usual, and they had to wait another 44 years. You couldn't do business with any of the Warsaw Pact Countries because they were part of that other World in the Cold War, Communism. People tried in the 1920's, but White Russia lost the Civil War so anything before the Revolution was also lost.

So what does that mean today?

You might have had a Taste of this when Sanctions were begun with Moscow because of their Annexing of the Crimea and the War in eastern Ukraine. Assets established after 1991 were either frozen or withdrawn east or west. Some People might have worked in that Economy but those Jobs either moved similarly or disappeared.

But this was mild compared to what could happen in a Cold War with China. Once that Bamboo Curtain goes up Millions of Jobs on either side of it will disappear. It becomes impossible to have an interactive Economy in that Environment while some are blaming what there is now for the current Morass. Scientists trained in the West went back to work in China.

This would be worse than the disruptions felt once Russia went Soviet in 1917 or eastern Europe fell into Moscow's Orbit because we have become a globalised Economy and China became a powerful Economy that is now the manufacturing Center of the World. That will all end, as will the Careers and Livelihoods of those who have worked in it since the 90's.

Before you scarper to the Internet and hope to continue online, foreign Currency Exchanges will become as difficult as they were with Warsaw Pact Currencies. The Soviet Ruble had no real Value in the West because it wasn't seen as a real Currency. Thus, exchanging the Yuan for Western Currency could become as fraught.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Having mentioned those Scientists who were trained in America, Australia and elsewhere, then returned to work in China - presumably they were monitored by their Sponsors?

If America could sponsor a young Kenyan called Barack Obama Senior in 1950, whose Son became it's 44th President, then keeping Tabs on a few Scientists couldn't have been beyond them!

  4. A Cold War with China won't be like some abstract Freddie Forsythe Novel that won't affect People's lives beyond a few Paperbacks and a Mini Series on TV.

It won't remain cold for very long, and won't just involve the Chinese.

Russia will try to remain neutral for a while, but will eventually fall on the side of the Chinese. They have large amounts of Military Interactions with Weapons and Training. The Chinese use 'T' Tanks and MIG Aircraft. While this goes on North Korea could very quickly bury their Differences with Beijing and become Allies with them. So could Vietnam. A War with these Countries will probably drag Iran into it, then by default Israel mobilises for the Americans, so do we.

It's astonishing how the Politicians talk about it like it will be a localised Conflict. It won't. It will be World War....and one where Robert Oppenheimer really will become "the Destroyer of World's", made poignant as India and Pakistan nuke each other to death.

In 1914 a Serb Nationalist called Gavrillo Princip shot the Heir to a crumbling and corrupt Empire - the Austro-Hungarians. They retaliated by invading Serbia. Russia went to the aid of their southern Slav (Yugoslav) Allies. Germany mobilises and invades Russia, Britain, the Commonwealth and France get involved to support the Tsar ..... So do the Japanese, and you know the rest. Some Bloke is shot in 1914 Sarajevo - and People continue to be shot, blown up and gassed for 4 more years everywhere from Flanders to the South China Sea.

Amazing how quickly it all happened.

Astonishing how NATO's George Robertson or George Bush couldn't see what might have happened in the Caucasus when Sakashvili upset the Russians. Had Putin not dealt with that one very decisively ethnic Battles between Russians and Georgians could easily have escalated as Chechens recommence their Spat with Moscow and Dagestan, bringing in Ingushetia, while Armenia and Azerbaijan resume their Conflict. After all, it's everybodies big Chance huh!

And that is an example of how those running the Alliances and the Politicians don't seem to grasp what you might call the bigger Picture.

And don't get me started on Venezuela!

    ReplyDelete
  5. America now has the biggest Military build up in the Gulf of Mexico since that of their Invasion of Panama in 1989. Does this suggest something similar for Venezuela? If so President Trump will be asking a People who have suffered nearly 90,000 Covid19 Fatalities to support a War in Latin America. How this will be received in the rest of South America remains to be seen, but considering Caracass was the wealthiest Capital in it there would be Ramifications elsewhere. Not just because of Economics but also because of Prestige!

America could find itself fighting on a huge Front to its south.

Also, there is a large amount of Americentricism to the current Attitude. That America is somehow the only Country with Links and Issues with China. People everywhere have those Links and potential Gripes - while China has its Treaties with Countries like Russia, and that of India in 1996. This was to settle a Dispute over the Indo-Chinese Border Region. While Russia might end up supporting Beijing whose side would India support? Bound by Treaty with the Chinese they might receive something like 2000 American Companies relocating from China. The Conflict of Interest is obvious, while many who voted for Donald Trump in 2016 did so because he was going to relocate American Manufacturing back to the US not India!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Whether it comes from Washington, or Moscow, President Trump needs to have an Emergency Summit with Vladimir Putin, who could broker a Peace with the Xi Jinping Government!

  7. Back on Venezuela .......

Much as I disagree with his Strategy I do agree with President Trump's Sentiment.

If, indeed, the supposedly 'Socialist' Government of Nicolas Maduro are Narcoterrorists it merely reinforces a Myth bandied around since the 1960's about so called Morality or Ethics. You meet them all the time, People who dress up Drug use as some sort of better Way or something, when it's just Drug use. The sort of People who try and put Micheal X - aka Micheal De Freitas - in the same Category as awesome American Anti-Slavery and Civil Rights Campaigner Frederick Douglas when there's no Comparison at all. Micheal X was a Drug dealing Pimp Extortionist who exploited Afro-Caribbeans while he had Dinner with John and Yoko.

Maduros Government forgets the most important thing when he oppresses other Venezuelans who could protest "but I'm 'the People' too". He is mistakenly seen as a Defense against America's seizing of Venezuelan Oil while his Government keeps giving them Reasons to strike. His Methods are counter-productive.

His Affects are felt everywhere People might use Cocaine or its corrupting Influence distorts everything.

    ReplyDelete
  8. People who try and put Micheal X in the same Category as Frederick Douglas are as insulting as anyone trying to say George Harrison was the same as Ghandi!

  9. There are more similarities between the Drug dealing Pimp of 1960's London and the Scouse Guitar Player than either might have with 2 of the World's biggest moral Authorities!

  10. Today Boris Johnson announced that he will make Britain more self-sufficient and less dependent on China. He wants to be less reliant on Chinese Imports.

To do this he will probably have to do the biggest industrialisation Program we have had since the Industrial Revolution, akin to Germany in the early 20th Century or the Soviet Union of the 1930's. We don't make anything anymore!

If he does, he will also have to increase Wages because things will be more expensive as these new Companies have to pay British Workers at the British Rate. He will have to negotiate with all those Countries that supply raw Materials for this Manufacturing, and could find himself in competition with the very Chinese he wants to be independent of. Their Track Record and their heavily subsidised Industry means he'll have a Fight on his hands.

What he could do is reinvigorate the Commonwealth and consolidate it, establishing Manufacturing in those Countries, and having first Refusal on their Resources. That way there won't be such a huge increase in Prices because the Wages Bill and other Costs are kept down. Thus, he could stave off potential Industrial Unrest by British Workers wanting an Increase. Something Beijing would want to import to us that he couldn't control.

By doing all this he not only frees us from that dependence he also helps a Commonwealth that has been very badly neglected in recent years. Australian Media might berate China for bribing Cameroon to ensure a UN Appointment, but Cameroon, like Australia is a Member of that Commonwealth. That particular Problem might have been avoided if more attention had been given to the Organisation.

In the post-Covid19 World, where 100 Countries seek an Inquiry that China wants to quash, the 55 Countries of the Commonwealth offer a potentially huge Market and reliable trading Partners.

    ReplyDelete
  11. And this isn't the green Light for Exploitation either .....

    Quite the Opposite.

The reason China became the Manufacturing Hub of the World was because Workers are paid the barest Minimum a Boss can get away with which attracted very many western Companies to set up Factories there. If you're a Musician for example how much of your Stuff - from Instruments to Amplification - is now made in China?

Guitar Companies have traveled the World, and depending on when you bought it your Stratocaster might have been made in Japan, Mexico, South Korea, India and now China.

All of this is because the Chinese Wages Bill makes it lucrative to operate. There are Workers Unions who do campaign for better but shall we say they aren't exactly encouraged.

If some of these were established in Commonwealth Countries where we do have substantial influence this could improve, but without any Exploitation. A Minimum Wage in Cameroon for example might not be that of here, but you could live properly and healthily on it there.

All of this might bolster the Fair Trade Movement too. Paying People a decent amount for legitimate Produce means less incentive to grow illicit Stuff like Narcotics.

So, if the growing Rift with China means we might have to become less dependent on it we do have a very substantial Contingency. And by doing so we might even improve the Lives of Millions of Workers and Farmers in Areas of the developing World 1000's of Miles away from comparatively wealthy, but fractured Europe!

And if Australia ditched the anti-Imperialist Baggage which is as outdated as the Notion of a British Empire, and also self depricates their own Achievements - the Commonwealth with its ready made Structure of Treaties and Agreements - has a Billion more People to sell Barley to than China! 14. Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so .......

Quote; "Meanwhile, in a Fit of Pique President Trump is relocating 2000 American Companies from China to India.

Not only will it prompt anti-American Sentiment in Pakistan, it could also undo any Progress they made in Afghanistan."

Posted previously here, I said how India could get drawn into a wider Conflict and that, it seems, is what is starting to happen as I write.

This is an Article from the Business Standard on 23rd of May .......

For the first time since the Kargil intrusions of 1999, Indian territory is in the hands of foreign soldiers. Starting in the third week of April, more than 5,000 Chinese soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have intruded into five points in Ladakh – four along the Galwan River, and one near the Pangong Lake.

While patrol intrusions from both sides are routine in areas where the Line of Actual Control (LAC) – the de facto border between India and China – is disputed, the LAC in the Galwan Valley corresponds to China’s official claim line.

That means that, in sending thousands of PLA troops three-to-four kilometres into the Galwan Valley, China has violated its own claim line and occupied territory that Beijing itself has traditionally acknowledged to be Indian.

This is not shaping up like a routing patrol confrontation, or even a temporary occupation of disputed territory of the kind that took place in Depsang in 2013, or in Chumar in 2014. This time the PLA soldiers are digging defences, preparing bunkers, moving in heavy vehicles and have reportedly even moved artillery guns to the rear (albeit in their own territory) to support the intruders, say the sources.

The Chinese have pitched close to a hundred tents at four points on the Galwan River between Patrolling Point 14 (PP 14) and another location called Gogra.

    Continued .....

    ReplyDelete
  15. Continued from previous ....

Indian troops in the area were taken by surprise when a large Chinese force crossed the LAC into the Galwan area in late April. Since then, Indian forces have not challenged or confronted the PLA.

Sources say the PLA is expanding its presence. There are fresh reports that the PLA has already initiated another infiltration into another sector in Southern Ladakh.

The Pangong Lake intrusion has been especially bloody for the Indian soldiers there. Sources say 72 Indian soldiers were injured in the confrontation and some of them needed to be flown to hospitals in Leh, Chandi Mandir and Delhi.

The PLA intrusions into Ladakh do not appear to be a localized operation, since they are spread across the area of responsibility of different PLA brigades and division. That suggests centralized coordination from at least the PLA’s theatre command.

Contacted for confirmation, senior officers in the army’s public information directorate declined to comment. Sources say the prime minister’s office (PMO) and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval are overseeing the Indian response.

At the local military level, which falls under the ambit of the Leh Corps Commander, there is little contact with the Chinese. It is learnt that the PLA has stopped responding to Indian requests for flag meetings under the mutual protocol termed the “Border Management Posture” (BMP). “It is a stand-off in which there is presently no communication,” says a senior military officer.

The unusual level of Chinese aggression is illustrated by an incident at the end of April when two Chinese helicopter chased off an Indian helicopter in which the Leh Corps Commander was surveying Indian positions near the Pangong Lake.

The army admits that there was an incident involving helicopters from both sides, but states it was a “coincidence” that the Chinese helicopters were there. The Indian Air Force (IAF) chief, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria admitted in an interview this week that there was Chinese helicopter activity in the area, but claimed that the IAF was taking “necessary action”.

There is little clarity within government about why the Chinese have triggered this intrusion, along with another simultaneously in Sikkim. Some officials speculate that Beijing is punishing New Delhi for publishing a revised map of the former state of Jammu & Kashmir in November, which showed Aksai Chin – which both countries claim, but China occupies – as a part of India.

Another viewpoint holds that the traditionally peaceful Galwan River has now become a hotspot because it is where the LAC is closest to the new road India has built along the Shyok River to Daulet Beg Oldi (DBO) -- the most remote and vulnerable area along the LAC in Ladakh.

Along the 800 kilometre LAC in Ladakh, there have traditionally been just five trouble spots, where the two sides dispute the LAC. These are Chumar, Demchok, Pangong and two places near DBO. The PLA’s ingress into the Galwan River valley opens up a new and worrying chapter.

  16. The Question here is; how is Pakistan going to respond?

If they see this as a Chinese Attempt to annexe an Area next to the disputed Kashmir Region they could take up Arms against the Chinese. They have fought with the old Enemy India for it for years, only to see it threatened by a new one.

Or do they seize their chance and secure a Deal with Beijing to form an Alliance that could brow beat India into giving them Kashmir?

As the Article shows, this isn't the usual Patrol straying deliberately into disputed Territory!

  17. In the extras of the Thames Television Series "the World at War" it is said how WW2 was the end of a Civil War in Europe that started in 1914, with a Ceasefire from 1918 to 1939. The thing is, that was in 1974, 15 years before the end of the Cold War so the Program Makers had no Idea about what would happen, and very quickly, in 1989.

That that part of the Civil War which started with Hitler's Invasion of Poland and "Barbarossa" - prompting Stalin's Response and the Warsaw Pact was as much part of it as the Somme or Anzio, Cambrai or Stalingrad.

The People who fought it with not much more than Mail Drops and Payphones were of the highest Caliber, on both sides. Our side fought for Freedom, theirs for what they thought was the Communist Ideal, thus both did so for something they felt was better than themselves. Our side was against Communist Tyranny, theirs what they saw as indulgent and selfish.

As we have seen, Leaders conjour up fake WMDs, but none of it obscures the Fact that they are fighting for ...... what exactly?

    Apparently.

  19. History repeating .......

While India and China dig in in the Ladakh Region in a Phoney War reminiscent of the "Sitzenkrieg" in late 1939/early 1940 France and Germany, Australia's call to nationalise Port Darwin to wrest it from the Chinese is like Castro nationalising all those American Companies after his Revolution in Cuba.

One led to WW2, the other - although ironic as a capitalist Country nationalizes something against a Communist one - has its Precedent in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

And the latter is being played out with each Ship sailing from Iran to Venezuela with Fuel and Refinery Spares. Not quite a Blockade but how long will it be before it becomes one?

The worrying thing is, these Precedents happened 22 years away from each other not at the same time.

A hefty Antidote to torporous Apathy might be a timely showing of Peter Watkins's superb but terrifying dramatised Documentary "The War Game". Filmed in 1964 it is a realistic Account of what would happen as WW3 broke out, how quickly it starts, how fast it escalates and it's terrible Consequences. What makes it so chilling is how he derived the factual Background Info from what happened in Hamburg, Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, plus research into the Los Alamos Thermo-Nuclear Tests.

It was banned because of its realism.

I have to say that even after years of seeing tough, gritty Films and TV, from War to the Apocalypse, Crime to Horror that Film still puts a Lump in my Throat!

    ReplyDelete
  20. And what makes "The War Game" so current us how it's Scenario starts with a Chinese Invasion of South Vietnam (which still existed in 1964). The US authorises use of tactical Nuclear Weapons ...... and one thing leads to another. The Soviets occupy West Berlin and America sends 2 Armoured Divisions to drive them back. They are overwhelmed by Soviet and East German Forces before reaching the City. They then use their tactical Weapons and the Soviets launch all out Thermo-Nuclear War.

Experts say that US Forces in the South China Sea would be overwhelmed if China decided to invade Taiwan!!!!!!

Even the French and Germans on the 1940 Border were a lot more restrained than their Indo-Chinese equivalents in the Ladakh!

    ReplyDelete
  21. While Peter Watkins harrowing and shocking Film starts with a fictitious War with China how about when we actually did fight them?

The Chinese lost an estimated 500,000 Men to the US/Allies 50,000 in Korea. That means they could lose on a Ratio of 10 to 1 in a War that was still declared a Draw, and everyone withdrew to the 38th Parallel that now divides North and South Korea.

They outnumber the Americans and their Allies by about 4 to 1 in Ships. They could lose 3 to every 1 and end it with as many Ships as the Americans had at the start. They also have the biggest Airforce in the World with - as Oliver Stone once put it - an unknowable number of Planes.

Some of which are direct Copies of the American Aircraft. They 'copied' the F16 from Tech derived through Israel (oops), while stolen Plans produced Copies of the F22 Raptor, and the very latest F31. Called the J-20 and J-31 respectively they might not have some of the Features of their - erm - originals but Chinese Technology is catching up very quickly. Even the Russians have had some of their Planes cloned so to speak. The J-11/16 is a copy of the Sukoi SU 27 - they bought the Production line from a broke USSR in 1989, while the SU 33 was bought from the Ukraine and improved as the J15. Russia refused to play so they went to Kiev.

All this is terrifyingly similar to the Soviet Acquisition of Technology from the Los Alamos Research Base in the 1940's that led to their having the Bomb by 1949.

While Peter Watkins's Chinese invaded South Vietnam in a very realistic Film Xi Jinpings have invaded India in very real Life. Unlike the French and Germans who glowered but largely ignored each other during a Phoney War that became very real, Chinese and Indian Troops have engaged in Fist Fights and Scuffles!

Should we be worried about this?????

    ReplyDelete
  27. Meanwhile .....

Iranian Ambassadors might say that a Biden Presidency could see their reiterating the Nuclear Treaty with Obama, but how long will that last once the Treaty with China commences?

When they start seeing the Benefits of it, irrespective of their Relations with America?

What will the World be like in 2045, after its 25 years have elapsed?

Sykes-Picot is an artificial Creation that carved up the Ottoman Empire after the First World War. Countries in Arabia not much more than Lines on a geo-political Map. There were attempts to use the Ethnography of the Region to draw them but those charged with maintaining them are transitory. Iraq is the most obvious example as Faisal was replaced by Saddam, who was removed by War. Saudi Arabia is only a Dynasty in Riyadh - not necessarily a People. It's very existence propped up by an America many Arabs don't want and are seen as an Affront to those sacred Moslem Shrines like Mecca.

The irresponsible Attempt to create a greater Sunni Region by War in Syria is a Scimitar with a double edge. The Saudi backed Insurgency - supported by the West and even Israel could very easily be matched by a Shia one supported by Iran. How long would it be before Tehran gets a huge Eraser and rubs out the Border with Iraq and links up with the latters majority? There's no Saddam stopping them doing this, while this could also involve Syria's Shia Government.

Syria's main backer is Russia, who have resolved their Manchuria Problem with China and have a Military Agreement with Beijing. The terrible Destruction and loss of Life in the Levant starts to look obscene and the World looks to those responsible.

In Lebanon the recent Explosion shows the Beirut Government can't even run their own Harbour, let alone Country, while it's Military is equalled by Hezbollah. A Militia supported by an Iran stymied for years by Sanctions. Something Tehran no longer has to worry about as China supplies them with everything in exchange for Oil the latter never had access to before.

That was always China's Problem until the Treaty. While even post Soviet Russia draws its Oil from the Caucasus and America has Texas and the Gulf of Mexico, China never had an equivalent.

So Hezbollah, who gave the once legendary Israel Defence Force a drubbing in Lebanon have a much more powerful Sponsor.

Then attention is switched to North Africa.

Libya doesn't have a Government to speak of while other Countries are very weak. When does Sino-Iran start making moves in that Direction? How about Chad, Niger, Mali and others, while Nigeria is courted as a regional Ally?

In Indochina the Chinese Juggernaut has its Proxies while Islamic Iran buys it legitimacy in Indonesia and Malaysia. Yes, the Chinese have their unfortunate Human Rights Record with the Turkic Moslems, but their Treaty with Iran means it doesn't affect Relations elsewhere.

Australia might see this as being a bit too close for comfort but while they might try and look tough by nationalising Port Darwin Beijing could foreclose on Tasmania. China outnumbers Australian, New Zealand, Japanese and American Ships by about 4 to one in the Pacific so a Sea Battle is something of a foregone Conclusion.

The global balance of Power has suddenly shifted spectacularly.

    ReplyDelete
  28. And while all this went on, what happened at the end of the Cold War?

The so called '5is' were brilliant during the Cold War, and when it was brought to it's Conclusion - Bush-Gorbachev at Malta - it ended as everyone hoped. A demilitarised Zone and where no-one dominated the other.

    Then it all disintegrated ......

Osama was a post-Cold War thing, so were the myriad Conflicts in Yugoslavia and recent War in the Caucasus and Ukraine. The forgotten Cold War in Indo-Pakistan and the Syrian Conflict.

But while all this went on what were those Intel Communities doing when they were supposed to be advising their Governments? What were they telling Bill Clinton, John Major, Bush, Blair etc?

In recent years, when China began its global Influence or we had the beginnings of a Problem that would lead to a Pandemic what were they doing?

In this Country 1000s of Spooks ended their Cold War, not by being redeployed in the near and far East to monitor all this. They were commissioned to grow Patronage in this Country, cultivate a deliberately dumbed down Culture and even Dole Snitching.

The dumbed down Culture was evident in the 90's being the 60's without the Social Conscience when there was no Soundtrack to the anti-War Movement of the early 2000s. No Protest like there was during Vietnam as useless Artistes were muffled by Record Companies. Other, so called 'Protests' as ridiculous as they were peculiar. 60's People were pissed at Nixon for Vietnam, Racists for Racism, and Husak for Prague. Post-90's People at Nature for the time of the Month.

Maybe they were more preoccupied with lining their Pockets in South West England and beating on their own People than globally lethal Diseases, counter productive Wars, the Mortgaging of Australia and the rise of the Xi Jinping Cult.

    ReplyDelete
  29. The current Debacle with Iran didn't start with Trump, while Obama's Treaty with them was a bit abstract. You might have an Agreement about Weapons that will never be used, but you also have a Regime of Sanctions that WERE applied every day. And more were introduced during the Obama Presidency. That while Nukes were on the Table in Tehran, Chemical Weapons were in Tripoli. The Problem is, the latter have also been used by everyone in the Miasma of Wars in North Africa and the Levant. Biden might have been Obama's Vice President, but Hillary was his DoD Secretary and she was responsible for Libya.

To assume Biden will somehow wave a Magic Wand and all will be restored with Tehran overplays his Hand, is very americentric, and ignores the Fact that Obama presided over more War than even Bush and Blair.

So much for the Nobel Peace Prize!

To have a Treaty, but also Sanctions is like an America at the end of the Cold War refusing to do business with the former Soviet Union.

  30. Iran will probably make more Money in the next 25 years than it has since the Revolution in 1979. With a completely updated Tech, Military and unprecedented access to Resources.

America's Problem was it's own Idea of indispensablity. That it saw itself as the be all, and end all of the World, blind sided to the emerging Influence of China and how that would start attracting Countries like Iran. It wasn't so much America pushing Iran away, they just had less and less interaction until it reached a Point where China didn't even need a Treaty with Tehran to have a bigger involvement.

That even when the beleagured and starving Nez Perce Indians were being chased around the North West Territories Chief Joseph - one of the World's great moral Authorities - maintained that you never sell the Land of your Ancestors. What Excuse did those Australians doing exactly that with Port Darwin, Tasmania and millions of Acres of Farmland put up from their air conditioned Offices?

The Native Americans night have lost the Battle, but they could win the War as those European Americans elect one Clown after another and lurch from Crisis to Crisis. Spanish Soldiers from Pig Shit Villages in Iberia went with the Conquistadors and saw the Great Cities of the Maya, the Inca and Aztec Peoples. Those of the Anasazi and Cahokia, forgetting that their equivalents came from North Africa.

His Europe is falling apart and the former British Empire is run by a Bunch of Hypocrites.

While 2 very ancient Civilisations - the Persians and Chinese - cooperate to become a Superpower they must wonder at the Plight of Conan the Barbarian who lived in Mud and Straw when eastern Cities had Street Lights. They were plagued by Alexander and the Khan's - but there is no Macedonian Army or Mongol Horde to bother them anymore.

Ironically, while America based its political System on the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, a collection of Native Tribes who formed a collaborative Government, it was white American Intrigue that destroyed it. Tribe fought against Tribe during the American Continental War. A precursor to everything that happened in the last 20-30 years.

But when Darius and those Chinese Dynasties moved Money, People and Goods it could take several Months. Now Money can be transferred in Seconds, People and Goods can travel in Hours or just Days.

How quickly will China and Iran establish themselves while Conan and co squabble amongst themselves? Build his Wall to keep People in as he fines anyone who dares have anything to do with either?

  34. Meanwhile, while it seems Indian Propaganda tries staving off or playing down Chinese naval Influence in the Region here are several Articles that suggest they are rather more powerful than the Propaganda claims ....

The first is an admission by several Australian Politicians and Strategists that the sale of the Lease to Port Darwin was "stupid" and a Mistake

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.abc.net.au/article/10755720

The second is a thorough analysis of Chinese global maritime Influence, including several Maps showing just how global, and strategic it is. You'll notice, for example, substantial Chinese Presence in both Panama and Suez. China now owns the biggest Panamanian Port.

    https://ig.ft.com/sites/china-ports/

While this happens they also now have access to the Iranian and Pakistani Coast of the Arabian Sea, including the major Fuel Port of Gwadar, which is regarded as the most important Oil distribution hub of the Region.

    ReplyDelete
  35. While Indian Speculators might be focussed on the Region, the proverbial bigger Picture suggests Chinese Influence on the 2 most strategic Places in maritime - the Panama and Suez Canals. As Iran deepens it's relations with Beijing this will also include the Straits of Hormuz, the narrow stretch of Sea connecting the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea.

And I'm not sure calling China the "Paper Dragon" is particularly useful.

This was how the Indian Broadcast referred to China and America "The Eagle and the Paper Dragon". Things might be grim at the moment, but somewhere in it all someone is going to have to negotiate an end to the Crisis. This isn't made any more possible by insulting Chinese Culture. The current Debacle is due to China's Government not it's People.

Even then, when the World reached its Cold War Nadir during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and Robert Kennedy had negotiated its end with Anatoli Dobrynin JFK instructed American Media not to say the Soviets had caved in or capitulated because he knew both would need scope to manouvre in future Negotiations.

    ReplyDelete
  36. What is happening now is rather like Cuba 58 years ago .....

China has several potential Guantanamo's - particularly Port Darwin - and the scope to start a Blockade. If Beijing decides to close the Straits of Hormuz via Iran - and we are seeing examples of this as Oil Tankers are harrassed by Iranian Gun Boats - they render all Oil Infrastructure in the Persian Gulf useless. Iran and Syria form a huge Land Mass from the Arabian Sea to the Mediterranean, but the West and Saudi Arabia have been poking Assad in the Eye for nearly 10 years.

This will mean new Shipping Routes via the Red Sea and Pipelines through North East Africa. (Trying to imagine one going from Israel's Sinai Desert into Egypt seems incongruous, not just politically but also physically as it would disrupt the Suez Canal).

If China does this it could force an Oil Crisis in Europe and America that won't involve any particularly big naval Warfare, thus India's advantage in South East Asia is rendered obsolete.

    ReplyDelete
  37. While China wouldn't have to necessarily establish a huge Presence in the Indian Ocean to influence Hormuz, Control of the Bab Al Mandab Strait and Gulf of Aden is also strategically important. It's the entry and exit to the Red Sea.

    This isn't new either .....

In 1967 the British fought the Battle of Aden in response to a Rise of Arab Nationalism inspired by Gamal Nasser in Egypt. The City and Port of Aden was guarding Shipping using the Suez Canal which was jeapordised by NLF Guerillas and the spread of Socialism during the Cold War. Nasser nationalised the Suez Canal which was then siezed by British and Israeli forces.

Recent fighting in Yemen and who controls the Country becomes strategically crucial in this Context.

Iran was always the Key in the Post-Cold War. While a healing of the Rift between east and west was important, no less so ought to have been that with Tehran. Any Gains made in either of the Gulf Wars could be cancelled out if China can obtain control of the Seas in the Region.

Because the West was preoccupied with Saddam and failed to develop a Relationship with Rafsanjani and more specifically Khatami Beijing now calls the Shots in Iran.

    ReplyDelete
  38. And in the continuing Civil War in Yemen Iran supports the Supreme Political Council, who control what was North Yemen, including the Countries Capital Sana's, while China supports the Cabinet of Yemen - predominantly Government forces sometimes based in Aden. Thus, by backing one, and having a Proxy support the other China could obtain considerable Influence in a strategically important Country many People might not have even heard of.

Aden might be one of those forgotten Battles of years ago, not as famous as Vietnam, Korea, the Gulf Wars and the Falklands, but it's it's importance wasn't lost on the British Government of 53 years ago!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Meanwhile, it seems TFIGlobal, the Indian YouTube Channel, are still trying to outdo themselves with antagonizing the Chinese. Now China isn't just "The Paper Dragon", it is also "the Communist Dingy" (obviously meant to insult the Chinese Navy), but all of this is misleading.

The latest from New Delhi is an Agreement made with Moscow to develop Trade and Business in the Russian far East and Vladivostok. Sold by India as a joint Move with Japan to stave off Chinese Designs on the Region what they don't tell you is how India is losing its Influence with other Key Countries in the near and far East. Obviously the Move with Russia is more an Attempt to compensate for it, while Reports creating the Impression that China could invade far Eastern Russia are very dangerous and misleading.

India's recent stance might even prove counter-productive and further disconnect them from more of the World who still operates Sanctions against Moscow. Commentators have argued that New Delhi could overplay it's Hand in antagonizing China and even if things become frought between Beijing and Moscow your Enemies Enemy isn't necessarily your Friend.

The Key to preventing further Conflict is continued Chinese Prosperity in its Dealings with India, not the opposite, while much of the current Strife is because both share Borders in Ladaq and the Himalayas. That and a regional Rivalry for Power and Influence.

China can claim the proverbial High Ground (all Puns intended) with the former because they can claim Sovereignty with the famous Mountain Range.

    ReplyDelete
  41. TFIGlobal also seem to contradict themselves.

A few Months ago they were telling us that China needs the West for its Economy. Fine, then why would Beijing deliberately cultivate a Virus that could destroy those Economies theirs wants to trade with? Conspiracy Theorists might argue that they wanted to weaken those Economies before taking them over, except that's rather like invading and occupying a Desert that has no natural Resources. What could they gain from Countries they can't trade with? They might occupy them, but Occupation proves costly, a Mistake the Soviet Union made during its 40 year Occupation of Eastern Europe. Gorbachev's Withdrawal was as much economically motivated as it was about Political Reform.

Western Leaders have been critical of China's handling of the Covid19 Crisis, ranging from some subscribing to the above to others accusing them of a Cover-up, except the World Health Organisation did nothing of the sort. As soon as they made their Announcement in January Western Leaders should have responded immediately, irrespective of Beijing. They didn't!

That it somehow echoes the West's Victory in the Cold War 32 years ago.

It doesn't, and to try and compare it is as wrong and erroneous as suggesting Events in the Ukraine a few years ago were like those of Prague or Berlin in 1989, even Bucharest.

While Kiev might have hoped it could re-enact the Velvet Revolution it did so against the backdrop of a very different Economy to that of the Warsaw Pact and a very different Russian Leader.

The Warsaw Pact was largely a self-contained state run Economy with very limited interaction with other Economies and one that had run its course. Client States like Czechoslovakia and Hungary were wealthier than Moscow with huge Scope for independence. Gorbachev declared he would not intervene should Czechs, East Germans, Romanians, Hungarians or Poles decide to oust their Communist Leaders. No 1956, 1968 or 1981 in other words.

The Ukrainian Economy is only nominally independent, while Russia's Annexation of the Crimea showed how nominal other Claims were. Mikhail Sakashvilli discovered how Russian some Areas of Georgia were in his Spat with Moscow.

And Vladimir Putin showed in Eastern Ukraine, the Crimea and Georgia he was no Gorbachev. Intervention grew to all out War as he wasn't going to withdraw.

So why are People who should know better gloating at an apparent slump in China when their Economy is intrinsically linked to everyone else's? And it isn't a small economy either - while any Collapse would take down the rest of the World, started by a Chain of Dominoes that would spread through Asia. It's like Cold War era Propaganda that ignores even the most basic Area of Economics ..... Manufacturing.

One look at the "Made in ....." Plaque or Label on many Items will tell them how intrinsic the Chinese Economy has become while how many People have Current and Savings Accounts with HSBC?

So if Beijing suffered the same Convulsions Moscow did 30 years ago they won't be able to safely stand West of any Iron Curtain, watching it all fall down, while there won't be any Chinese equivalent of Mikhail Kordarkovski or Yeltsin's inner circle to borrow a few 100 Million Dollars buying up former State Enterprises. The Cost of a Chinese Slump would be far more expensive.

  44. Erm, why is Nancy Pelosi going to Taiwan? Taiwan has always been treated as the Third Rail of Diplomacy. Touch it and die. Someone as prominent as the Speaker of Congress visiting Taipei recognises Taiwan as a sovereign Country - something the Chinese have always said they wouldn't tolerate!

    Like things aren't bad enough!

  45. Before any Politician singles out anyone for their admiration or support of an authoritarian Government in Beijing they should remember why China grew to what it is.

Because very many western Countries wanted to make Products on the cheap. In a Country where the Workers have very few Rights and are paid Sweat Shop Wages. Thus they relocated their manufacturing operations to China.

I write as a UK Citizen who remembers a 1980's where Thatcher closed most of our Coal Mines and began importing cheap Coal from Jarulzelski's Poland where Workers had very few Rights and were paid Pennies. Solidarnosc was banned while British Money subsidised Jarulzelski's Regime.

  51. As you can see, some quintessentially American Names there including AT&T, Walmart, Sears, K-Mart, Intel and Coca Cola. Other Companies - ranging from Toyota to Volkswagen, Sony to Black and Decker - it's a substantial List, while Musicains plug Chinese made Guitars into Chinese made Amplification with very Americana Brandnames.

Croatia hosts a Bridge that glistens and funded by the European Union, but was built by the Chinese Bridge and Road Corporation (because presumably the People who built that famous Bridge Tourists travel to see in Dubrovnik have forgotten how) while Academe in both Countries have a Treaty to promote scientific Development. There's a double standard at work here similar to a Ukraine that has benefitted from Soviet built Infrastructure Projects like the huge Dniepr Hydroelectric Dam, while Zelensky has fought his War with Soviet era Tanks and Planes.

  52. I'm just wondering when the Bloke at Redacted is going to plug in that Stratocaster Guitar (if it's a Squier it's made in China) we always see in the Background - into a Chinese made Fender Amplifier.

Having mentioned that, there's something a bit contrived going on there isn't there. As contrived as pretending not to remember the other Scandinavian Country that is about to join NATO and asking everyone to "Help him out" ...... Kylie!

  53. They also contradict themselves ....

While dismissing other Channels, Blogs and Journalists for expressing Alarm at Nancy Pelosis's ill advised Visit to Taiwan, describing them as People who don't know what they're talking about, their Video Description for the latest on the Visit said how Pelosis's Trip could cause "all out War".

So presumably the Information is only wrong if it's relayed by other People.

  54. The thing is, what would China be like if it had gone the same way as Russia after the Soviet Union? Would Chinese People be better off if they had the same Problems post-Soviet Russia had? Imagine it being run by a Chinese Boris Yeltsin and all its State run Enterprises sold off and asset stripped to an Oligarchy. Some of that has happened - but nothing like as chaotic as Russia - and not as damaging to Millions of People. What would most Chinese say about some of these Critics of their System?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Post-Soviet Russia was a Mess, with a few Oligarchs in Moscow, St Petersburg and bigger Cities becoming hugely wealthy while Millions fell into chronic, irreversible Poverty. The West liked a Russia that was severely weakened, and pliable, lending People like Kordarkovski what would be modest Loans against the Return on Investment. A Country susceptible to future Access to its vast natural Resources. China didn't do this, while Westerners adopted a Nimbyish Attitude about Human Rights while cashing in on the massively reduced Manufacturing Costs of Chinese Labour.

It's only now that certain Politicians have decided to criticise them, long after the years of Profiteering. But then, it wasn't until the Chinese had built the Union-Pacific Railroad when everyone else proved unreliable America introduced one of the most appalling Political Acts of the Industrial Age - the Chinese Exclusion Act.

Perhaps the Croatian MEP - speaking in Zagreb or Brussels and Strasbourg ought to have criticised them BEFORE they built that Bridge!

It's also rather like an American Government not tolerating racist Language Laws in the US, but quite happy to support Kiev who have effectively banned Russian.

    ReplyDelete
  56. And while China seems to act as Guarantor for Manufacturing and underwrote much of the Economy during the Slump of 2008, what might the World have been like if China had become Russia2 in the 90's? It's not just the Chinese who have benefitted from the System they have, while you will find very few Russians harbouring any Nostalgia for the Yeltsin Era. This is why Putin is so popular, being someone who turned some of that around.

Xi might be powerful, but that all hinges on his continuing to provide the sort of Prosperity Chinese People have seen in recent years. That could change if things began to slip.

    ReplyDelete
  57. While China would rather see this War end sooner than later, and has refused Weapons for Russia, you have to ask if there are parallels with their Position with Taiwan as there are Russia's with Ukraine?

We have a Precedent here with what happened in Hong Kong, and how Beijing finally cracked down on the now nominally 'autonomous' City in recent years. Although he has been very critical of China's recent Activities in Hong Kong it's last British Governor, Chris Patten has said it seemed to work for the first 10 years or so since he handed it to the Chinese in 1997.

The "One Country, 2 Systems" Agreement held and Hong Kong enjoyed a state of Autonomy and many of the Freedoms enshrined in it.

But if nothing else Ukraine has shown us that these things are never Black and White. Much of the World might deplore Russia's Invasion last year, but further study shows that there were mittigating Circumstances for a very long time before that might be seen as highly provocative.

Using that as a Template, might we find a similar thing was happening in Hong Kong? That similar Intrigues might have been at work that upset the delicate Balance it's System worked with? I agree with Mr Patten that recent Clampdowns and the National Security Law breached all his Agreements with Beijing, but we have also seen Agreements breached with Russia - the Cause of the current Crisis.

Things look set on collision Course in the Taiwan Strait as Taipei manouvres around the very narrow Constraints of their stand off with China. A Collision that would involve America and Japan and could cause a dangerous Conflict with China. Nancy Pelossi raised a few Eyebrows when she visited the Island as Speaker of the US Congress last year. The proverbial third Rail of Diplomacy.

If Chris Patten is right, and the "One Country, 2 Systems" Arrangement worked for those first 10 years, it started not working around the same time as the unfortunate Announcement in Bucharest that effectively invited Ukraine and Georgia to join NATO.

Are they both somehow connected and a Policy existed to undermine the Situation in Hong Kong like many have said started happening in Ukraine? It was also 2008 when Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili began his Artillery Bombardment in South Ossetia, prompting the War there.

If any Agreement is going to be reached on this Impasse People should look at the Tragedy of Ukraine and learn from the Preamble that caused it.

  58. Could the Meeting between President Xi and EU Leaders be a glimmer of hope? Watch this Space as I will study any Developments with this in Beijing and publish my interpretations of them.

Hopefully, the EU might now be a bit more receptive after the disastrous Conflict of the last 2 years and deteriorating Relations led to one of the most dangerous Climates we've ever had.

Also, could it also mean a highly coordinated response to the Pneumonia Virus that has gripped China in recent Weeks? That it might be a bit more pre-emptive than that of COVID-19?
