  1. You'll note that I haven't mentioned Media or Film Companies who might have acted like Thomas Eddidon's Patents Trust - except they are worse. The Trust only made sure People couldn't make Films, not everything else too, which is why these People relocated to a small Village 8 Miles from Los Angeles!

  2. I'd like to encourage People to make Films because there is a Subtext to what some Film makers have said in recent years that almost supports this.

Someone who probably remembers what it was like before he became a famous Movie Maker is Martin Scorsese, for whom growing up in New York as an Italian American wasn't that much different to what it might have been like 30-40 years earlier for those People who were then independent Film Makers. Some of his recent Product alludes to this...... "Gangs of New York", "Boardwalk Empire" and "The Departed" for example. That the Industry was in trouble by then is no secret, MGMs very near Bankruptcy, the complete disappearance of U.A, Time-Warner who sold their Theaters like all of them had to 60 years earlier and their severing ties with AoL, an arrogant and swaggering Music Biz that eventually devoured itself - then lost the Propaganda War against File Sharing, making more Enemies than Friends.

Another is Joe Carnahan who got the support of "French Connection" Maker - William Friedkin for his Detroit set Movie "Narc" - somewhere where something similar happens. That we are in an Environment similar to what we had 100 years ago, and how the 90's somehow bookended the Century with the consolidation of that. The Products of that Decade are ignorant, arrogant fodder for the same Attitude that prevailed in the Patents Trust which plagued any aspiring Creatives at the start of it.

  3. In fact, we might even reach a point where there are fewer People in the Mediaocracy than those who are not. Those wanting to start Film Making should derive some inspiration from what "The Wire" Writer and Creator, David Simon said about how it was no coincidence that everyone working on it were outside the Television Industry. Compare his acclaimed Show with the bland Fodder most of the established Industry have churned out in recent years - from the cynical Beatlesalikes of the 90s to - erm - Celebrity Big Brother!
